So heres the problem - i dont own a GHD but the next best thing - a remington - i find that it works well in getting my hair straight but its when i head out and the nite passes my hair becomes wavy again and not as sleek and smooth as when i left the house. (thick, layered, wavy)
Any products that ye have come across that you can share ?
    :)

i had a remington aswell before, my hair would be quite thick too, it straightened it fine, but like yourself not for long. i got a ghd, way way better..i got it cheaper from HQhair.com (think thats what it was called anyway)
make sure u put a tiny bit of serum on your hair after straightening too, it makes it mice and smooth and shiny looking, but make sure u dont use too much as makes it look greasy then.

l'oreal hot straight or hot something oranother in a bright pink bottle is excellent i find and not really expensive like other staightenin products.
i have thick wavy hair and when i use it my hair lasts longer [ie. stays straight] well into the wee hours...

I have the same problem and with thick waist length wavy hair, it takes 5 hours to straighten it properly only for it to start going back to normal within 10 minutes of hitting the air outside because of moisture content.

I got a mad brush from the Avon catalogue (of all places) - its like a hair straightener, (shaped like a V) but instead of flat panels on both sides, there's a brush on both bits. When you clamp it together over your hair and run it down, holding the hair dryer above it and making sure the hair cuticles (?) are lying flat, it dries straight then and it doesnt take long for my hair to straighten properly with the real straighteners. I think it cost me something like 5euro's.

I also used their straightening shampoo and the conditioner (From the Straight and Sleek range) and this helped. The better conditon my hair is in, the better it straightens and last longer.

After straightening i use Avons sleek and shine spray to give it a better sheen and it makes my hair feel really soft and light.

The closest shampoo to it that i've found in the shops is the Pantene one. It works almost as well.

I got it cut up to shoulder length last week ( :( - shouldnt have done it) and now find the time it takes is a lot shorter but now realise that the weight of the long hair helped keep the kinks and waves down for longer than the light shorter length.

Maybe something like what i've managed will help.

It's pricey, but it works...Bumble & Bumble's 'Straight' hairgel. Apply it to damp hair, then blowdry straight as usual. However, I recommend hairspray afterwards for an extra seal to keep the humidity out if it's raining. Otherwise, it would be back to the curls & waves for me. smile.gif

Pantene have a cream in a pump from the smooth and sleak range and its really good. You only need the tiniest bit(if you use too much it makes your hair look greasy) and it flattens all the static bits after using the straightner.
