I have a serious problem with some very noisey neighbours, they party every month or so which I have no problem with the idea of partying to a reasonable hour thats cool but these people go on partying till 4 in the morning and sometimes even 7 in the morning at crazy volumes, 30 people in a corporation house, the age range is teenagers up to people in their 30's, my family and I have gone in nicely to them and asked them to turn it down, the first time they complied but after this my mother was walking home by the shops one day and got verbally abused by a gang of teenagers who were at the party, this happens regularly now, the next time they had a party they would not answer the door when we knocked, we called the police at 4 in the morning, one guard said they would sort it out but no one came, after an hour I rang the police again, they said the same thing, finally at 6 o'clock in the morning I got a garda on the line who said they could do nothing about the situation as it was a private house and I needed to talk to dublin county council to order them to stop, I am about to do this but has anyone else had this problem and found a way of successfully sorting it out, I refuse to let my family live in fear of common thugs and bullies and I am at my wits end with these people.
I would be very grateful if someone could provide advice on this as its seriously affecting our lives.

did you ring 999 or your local cop shop? usless fcukers.

have you talked to other neighbours who are affected by the noise?

Ask your local Sinn Fein representative to have a word. It's underhanded, dirty and immoral but it'll have an incredible effect.

I rang the local cop shop as we had the number, we spoke to other neighbours who feel the same way but they will not comit to any action at all, one tried with a few polite words after a big party and the next day her car was scratched with a keyring, it seems everyone of the neighbours is waiting for the other to take action first, If I have to do this on my own I will, I want to be careful for the sake of my family and especially my mom who is getting on a bit, if this was my place I would have caused war by now. I really feel powerless at this stage.

Have you tried talking to the homeowner during the day when theres NOT a party going on? (Getting sense out of a gang of louts full of beer never works) See what theyre like and if they have an approchable side. Perhaps if they see your not Victor Meldrew but just want peace at night it might help.

Honestly, contact the county council AND if necessary, your local T.D. . Sometimes it takes a little perseverance but letting lowlife scum rule/interrupt your daily life is not on  Just recently a neighbour of mine had some ppl over for a little party also, as she lives over me and had ALOT of noise going on... so i gave her a piece of my mind as to how i felt and what i would do if it happened again.

On the plus side, if it's agreeable with some other neighbours and you have a decent enough power output like i do [ 1010W in 4 speakers :D ] blast the crap out of them with some music they are sure to hate like country & western or classical ;)

Thanks a million guys for all the advice, my mother already tried talking nicely to the actual parents but the kids are obviously a chip of the auld block as it went nowere and we hear the parents when they are twisted drunk outside in the backyard mouth off about my mother complaining about the noise level, I think its time for the county council option and then the local T.D.
You all have been a great help, love the idea of pumping country and western music at them.

is it not time to get the rest of the street involved, have you really tried that?
start with everyone getting in touch with the co. co. & TD
if that doesn't work, sleepy's idea, or a visit from everyone on the street at the same time (very last resort)

Can't believe the useless attitude of the Gardai. You should have asked for the gob****e's name and that would have changed his stance, maybe. I've seen Guards call into houses before when people complained about noise levels. You obviously got some useless plonker, unlucky.

What is a Sinn Féin representative supposed to do, as opposed to any other TD??

When you're playing the C&W, start it at 8-9am

Here's a link to noise regulations in Ireland
    Linky

    Quote from above site :
"While the law does not specifically mention an exact level or standard of noise that is illegal, it is clear that if neighbourhood noise is affecting the quality of life of a citizen, then you have a right to complain. Your local authority has the power to investigate complaints about neighbourhood noise and also has specialist equipment that measures levels of sound."

Why can't you believe that the gards were useless??? I know mates of mine that came in from a night out, all drunk so were playing music loud, just shouting about and shít like that, 20 minutes later a paddy wagon and a mondeo pull up outside the house, so the gard saying he can't do anything is talking shíte. I like the idea about the sinn fein td!!

A friend of mine had neighbours who stayed up all night playing rave music, he used a solution mentioned here, except he played ac/dc full blast from early morning. It didnt stop them much but he got great satisfaction from it.

ok .. calm blue ocean .. calm blue ocean

that is BS to be honest .. it doesn't matter a damn if they are in a private house, they were blantenly committing noise polution and the Guards should have been straight over the first time you called. If they ever do that again as to take there names and badge numbers and then report them the next day. That will get their asses moving.

Make sure to document every single time you complain and to whom.

If you had to deal with what they put up with day in and day out, you might understand where the attitude some of them have comes from.
Anyway you can't tar them all with the same brush, there's good and bad Gardai out there, same as in every other profession !

Also, noise pollution is not a crime enforced by the gardai but by the Environmental protection Agency. Gardai would charge someone with disturbing the peace for loud music (And no, I'm not a Garda)!

Each area/street/whatever has a Community Officer (that may not be the name but it's something like that). Go down to your local copshop and ask to speak to your local guy/gal. That is what these guys are for.

Don't forget to put the same track on repeat, as you go out for work or for a few hours...

The fire with fire option may sound a "good way", but remember: they can ignore you, but you may not be able to ignore them.

If you know when the party is on, get someone out from the local authorties to check out the sound level. After 10pm, this drops, so if they record sound after 10pm, there's more of a chance of getting a result.

Just out of interest, what do you expect the gardai to do in a situation like this?

hmmm yes quite astute, it is also possible that said TD will come around when drunk, he may even leave the party and murder you all in your beds..........ffs

<edit>is is possible that people would give helpful suggestions and not let their imaginations run away with them?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,010 ✭✭✭kasintahan

AFAIK, it's a civil issue. The Gardai have nothing to do with it, all they can do is have an informal word.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,733 ✭✭✭Blub2k4

    Are these rave parties?

The gardai would be very interested to investigate claims of drug dealing from a house.....a nasty one but just an idea.

That has to be bull**** about private residence, because ive been to plenty of parties in which the gardai have come and said to either be quiet and tell everyone to go home etc...
its when they bother getting off their asses!
No but i do have a muchos respectos for the gardai, i bow to you when you do get off your asses!
Oh and great response times! well done!

You phone them as a concerned citizen and say you suspect that there are drugs being sold and taken at a party, I guarantee they wont "come back" (whatever that is supposed to mean) to you for wasting their time.
If you do it often enough I guarantee that the parties will stop.
I also guarantee that if they looked hard enough they would find something.
You can ask to remain anonymous and say you dont care for feedback on what happened just want to report it.

Gardaí won't be too interested in making busts at parties IMO. They'd be more interested in higher-level dealing.
