    Im doing a mod at the moment which has a 5" LCD TV built into my computer what ill like to do is put some distance between the screen and the PCB the screen is attached by only 3 wires which are fine to extend ...but what i need halp with is either somewhere i could buy a new rippon cable thats longer than the one that comes with or eles so DIY way of extending the rippon ...i want to keep the PCB inside the case and the LCD will be lying flat inside a dvd-bay till the drive open then the lcd will sit upright ....so ill need about 6" min of the cable ..the problem is that at each end of the cable there seems to be some kind of "molex" well its more like just a change of plastic done so that each each wire inside the rippon can make contact inside the female socket ...

    Any help here would be great ....Thanks

    Is the end plastic clip like those in old IDE cables?

    If so it should have a cap that can come off, and under it there will be lots of little metal V's which catch the ribbon wires between them.

    You should be able to use an old floppy or IDE cable, just separate the number of wires you want for it, and remove the end connectors on the LCD one, and put them on the IDE/floppy cable. You have to be very, very careful of this though, since the wires are a b*tch to get straightened and clasped correctly.

    <edit>Use the macro mode (often signified by a tulip symbol) on your camera for really clear (detailed) close up shots</edit>

    Make and model. there might be a manual and a spec on that LCD and a part no. for the ribbon.

    Get us a better hi-res shot of the cable, preferably with something for size reference (coin, IDE cable etc.) beside it.

    Either way, Peats, Maplin or Farnell/Radionics should be able to supply you with the parts you need.

    I presume this is the one you advertised in the Tweaking page.
    Took a guess by the pic it was a crowd named Saka that built it, AKA www.chitat-electronics.com Think its the CT-V505 model.

    I'd be inclined to go with what Wizzard said. Only I'd do a more rough barbaric version, myself.
    Cut the cable in half, and get an old piece of cat5 and splice in in the middle.

    ]]---- ========----[[

    [[ Legacy connector
    ---- legacy ribbon cable
    ===== any cable (old ide, cat5 etc)

    Or something.
