Achilles heel

i think most people must have some form of achilles heel in poker. mine is playing turbo & speed 1x1 stt's whenever i finish or before i start full table stt's. the lure seems to be too great and i am forever sucked into 'the quick double up' mentality. im disciplined in that i 'never play cash games' almost never rebuy mtt's but i seem to be magnetised to playing those 1x1 games.
    whats your achilles heel?

Rarely believing a raise from the button :(

Sometimes playing too tight. Mainly live though for some reason. The actual physical act of throwing in your chips and seeing your stack affects my game so I sometimes play too tight.

Calling an opponents river bet after I know he hit whatever (top-pair, 2 pair, str8, flush) he was hoping for, after he called bets he shouldn't have.

im disciplined in that i...almost never rebuy mtt's.

Do you mean you play rebuy MTTs but don't rebuy / top-up if knocked out? I don't think you should bother playing the rebuy tournies if you are not willing to rebuy the appropriate amount of times and top-up.

I *had* a serious Achilles heel in live tournies, I folded too easily to a re-raise. Trying to work on this after one of the older players in the Fitz advised me that I 'went away too easily' when I was involved in post-flop action. My current bugbear is not thinking enough about what my opponents hold or giving enough time to consider the full range of hands they might hold and their style of play. Obviously this is something I need to rectify to have further success with poker!

i phrased it wrong. i meant to say 'i almost never play rebuy mtt's'. id always allow myself at least 1 rebuy and a top up if i did though.
i agree with you, its ridicullous playing a mtt rebuy tournie and not willing to rebuy.

i played in a live freeroll a few days ago and when a woman beside me done her chips she got up and said said unabashed "im done i dont believe in rebuys anyway" this is what makes live poker as interesting as it is, you dont hear this gold online!.

calling a river raise in limit when i just know 90% of the time that the muppet has made his lucky 2 pair, str8 etc.

mine is consistently playing poker when I'm on a bad run, instead of taking a break like I should. Also, I stll tend to go on tilt when I someone makes a REALLY bad move. More in online than live, I can take defeat with some grace in a live game. Dont want to be seen as a sore loser!

Interesting. Did I not read you saying that you got up and left the fitz big game after your JJ was cracked by Joe's 1010, EVEN THOUGH you still had chips left on the table :)

Btw, I have the same problem online, going on tilt when some muppet hits his crap cards.

yeh i had 1 chip(100) on the table! I left because I didnt think the rest of the table needed to see me pissed off for another hand. I may not have left with much grace but I did leave partly for the other players benefit!

ignoring the 10 bb rule - ie getting anted away

it's just that part of the tourney when the blinds start increasing and not adjusting my game till it's too late

    rebuying (a lot) in mtt's
not being satisfied with avg stack in mtt... i tend to go for too many 50/50's in the freezeout stage online when i am under absolutely no pressure..
Omaha Hi/Lo Cash games... such fun
also, i just cannot take the button seriously..

    1. Making calls when I'm +80% sure I'm beat after I've made a big investment in the pot.
    2. Sometimes I build pots too large too early, tieing myself to a hand that starts looking bad.

I think I've got the second one sorted but I still have a little bit to go on the first.

I was there, it was horibel (horrible), you don't have to justify it Rory. Oh the humanity.

my heel is doing deals. man, i love to do deals! I'll do a deal right now! anybody? we'll take 200 off the top for the know it all dealers and split it 60/40. no wait, I'll have to listen to whingers explaining the finer points of their no deal strategies to me as they go broke over 3 months. No deal!

My flaw would be having a pocket pair or up and down draw an calling small bets when I know I am behind, should either reraise or fold habit of calling the little bets though.
