Cant comment on the quality or value of thiose chips, but I personnally dont like chips without a value on them fo rthe obvious reasons.....

Either way you can get a "Las Vegas" 9 gram clay 500 chip set for €109 euro in Liffey Valley, the Square, Pavillion from Special days they have a good selection of chips and tables.

i invested in the 500 chip set for €150 ages ago along with a fold outtable top hexagonal table for 8 players for €50. Well worth every penny for the home games and will last a life time.

If you dont live in dublin try online @ http://www.specialdays.ie/ or search for same products on amazon /ebay

Had a look at the Special Days offers:

Why are the heavier 13.5g chips cheaper than the 9g ones?

Keep an eye out in TK Max (Stephens Green and Blanchardstown).
They sometimes have very good offers on poker stuff.

The weight opf chips is a personal thing from what I have read.

The main difference other that the weight is the fact that they are not marked in value. I review this site before deciding to buy. Lots of reviews and in fact I was surprise dto find out that there are poker chip geeks out there.

Heavier does not mean better (even though I have tried to convince my missus that it to no avail. hence I am on another diet)

    Great info though

Interesting. What are the "obvious reasons", Gecko? We're still honing our homegame, so being able to say that, for example, Green is no longer 25 and is now 250 (as I have more of other colours) is a lot easier than trying to fit my needs around the arbitrary chip values.

    I'm just curious.

The 9g chips are "true clay" and have a high clay content - 78%

The 13.5g chips have a 60% clay content and have a metal insert to give the additional weight.

Personally I prefer the 9g chips.

We also have 2 new designs coming in october in the 11.5g composite - both will have numerical values and will retail less than €70 for the 500 set. - We will also have little packs of 100 chips both in 11.5g & 9g clay, ideal for adding a few and also as a mini travel set.

p.s. If anyone is at the Horse Show we have our poker range on show in the Serpentine Hall (antiques & interiors)

How much is a box of matches these days?

I did a bit more research. It seems that 9g chips are preferred because they sound more "authentic" whereas 13.5g have a more "metalic" sound because of metal inserts to make them heavier.

Still would you pay more for 9g chips than for 13.5g chips?

That explains the price difference I suppose.

Exactly it stops you having to say anything about the value of the green chip.

It stops you having to right down the value of the chip for the lads who get drunk by 10pm

It also makes close colors less likely to be thrown into a pot at the wrong value as the numbers are clear to see when they hit the pot

It can also depend on how you run your home game. Is it a Tournament mode with rebuys and top ups or are you playing a cash game I.E you can buy in and cash out at any time? In tourny mode I personally have found that as blinds increase and rebuys increase the value of the pots.... having a case of numbered chips makes removing the lower values easier.. but maybe thats just me :D
