Wedding in Italy

    Hey,

This appeared to be the most appropriate forum for my thread. Apologies if I missed a better place for it.

Anyway, has anyone here gotten married in Italy? Or is planning an Italian wedding? Or knows someone in either situation?

My fiancee and I are starting to plan our Italy September '06 wedding, and we're looking around for a good agency / organiser. The one we're looking into at the moment is the travel agency in Newbridge, but they want to charge a 65 euro "appointment fee" before we even meet them. Obviously I'd rather not part with this money if they turn out to be cowboys.

So, if anyone has any experiences or recommendations to share, please do.

    Be VERY VERY careful.

I was at a wedding in May of two very close friends of mine, and it was a terrible experience for them.

Planner took deposits from them, from guests for their accommodation, but never passed it on to the hotels or restaurants, it was a nightmare over there, and was a disgusting trick to play. It was a scam.

Who is the proposed wedding planner suggested to you?

Culchie - What planner did your friends use, so that i know to avoid him? We haven't decided on any planner / agency yet. There's a couple we're looking at, such as www.newbridgetravel.ie, www.slow-dreams.com and www.italianweddings.ie. Do you know if it was any of these?

Ruggiebear - yes, if you can get the number of website of your father's planner, that would be great.

R0ot - sounds promising, any idea what planner or agency they used (if any)?

It was a woman, she was from Castleknock.

We had a great time despite her, but stress on couple was terrible.

Do a little digging on the Newbridge crowd and find out who their 'agent' in Florence is. Hopefully it won't be the same gang.

PM me with their name when you find out, and I will give you the name of the one to avoid....don't want to get done for libel :)

I got married in Italy last year and used newbridgetravel. They were grand and helpful but in all honesty in hindsight I didn't need them at all. They gave me the number of the priest in Rome but they don't make any arrangements with the church, you do it all yourself. All they did was book the flights and hotels but you can do it easily yourself and a lot cheaper. If you want a good church in Rome which was very scenic and had very helpful Irish priests pm me and I'll give you the details.

    OP,

Myself and my Fiancee are getting married there in June of next year.
We did a lot of searching online and chose to meet two different planners when we went over for a view.

Firstly we decided on the country then on a particular region, some places will allow foreigners to marry in a church and some won't, it depends what your after.

We then went searching for planners that specialised in that region and arranged to go over and meet them in April. When over there we found that one of the agencies didn't listen to a word my other half said we would like and wasted our time showing us places that didn't suit - however the planner herself was excellent and took time from her own schedule the following day to show us some places that were more what we were looking for.

The other planner was an english lady who lived in Italy and knew exactly what was required. She brought us to a few places and eventually we picked one (after much number crunching and deliberating).

We are getting married in the north, near a small lake that is not as overran with tourists as Sirmione or Como (well it wasn't in April anyway so fingers crossed). One of the problems we found was that the law over there doesn't permit drinking after 12 outside so we have had to rent a music bar and need to move people to it from where we have the meal, imagine trying to get 70 drunk Irish people on a boat or bus after a wedding!

So far we have got accomodation lists and info from the planner promptly every time we have asked so i have no complaints. Although to tell you the truth my other half has been dealing with mostly all of the hard work to get it organised. The honeymoon is my responsibility (World cup year, near Germany etc ;) )

if you need details PM me as i don't want to give out planner or agency names in the thread.

I got married in Rome last may.
I went to the agency in Newbridge that you talk about and the guy was very helpful.
We then booked alot of the stuff ourselves, (it was 2K) cheaper for the hotel for us to book it ourselves)
anyway bring tea to the Brother, and rashers and sausages to Priest. It was a great event. I have alot of info if you want it. The hotel we used was really great and everyone liked the food, we had 40 + there and the food etc was very nice, everything went to plan, the priest orgainsed the photos and the flowers, it all went very smoothly.
If you want to PM or ring me I'll run through it with you. It seems to be alot easier to do then an Irish wedding, we popped over in December 04 to meet the girl in the hotel and see the Church/Priest.
If the Guy in Newbridge is Tim then I'd go see him, he knows his stuff, otherwise I could give to the names and numbers of the priest.

all the best, should be a great day and its a wonderful city (if your thinking of Rome)

    Hi,

I've recently started looking for a wedding planner as I would like to get married in Italy next year (I cannot decide between Venice and Rome!!).
I did some search and I found an Italian company
http://www.weddingsitaly.com that seems to be what I am looking for.
I filled in their request form and got a really quick response, one of the wedding planners also called me on the phone to have a chat and talk about my plans.
I am now waiting her to email me some proposals, but what I can tell now is that they are really organized, quick and professional - but most important, they are based in Italy and this is one of the main reasons I'm deciding to go with them, I need someone who is familiar with the place and that can take care of everything on my behalf.
Not sure of their prices yet, but the lady explained me that they take care of everything (paperwork, arranging of the ceremony, reception and also accommdation...) - I know I'll need a great help so I am willing to pay some more money but to reduce stress...:D

    Hi there,

if you're planning a wedding in Rome you should contact www.weddingsitaly.com It's a company based in Italy and specialized in the organization of weddings and above all they have acquired a deeply knowledge in the assistance of the paperwork for Irish citizens: for a truly and stressfree experience!

My brother got married in Rome in Jan. Great experience and they didn't brother using a planner. Himself and the now wife went over for a long weekend, looked at a few hotels, picked one, picked the menu, booked the rooms, flowers and photgrapher.

WAY cheaper than doing it here.

They got married in the Irish College - very helpful staff their too. Worth giving them a call - http://www.irishcollege.org/wedding.htm

You can get married on one of their dates (see website) or sort out your own priest and book a day that their chapel is free.
