Opening Microsoft Word Documents

    is it possible to open .doc files with appleworks or is there something you can donwload to open them?

    Appleworks has it's own build-in file translators to able you to work with .doc documents - no extra programs needed.

    hmm, never had taht problem with appleworks?

    what about neo office?

    With appleworks you mentioned there is a file convertor. Does that mean that before doing anythign on the file it converts it to a different file type and therefore cannot resave it as a .doc for later viewing on office

    I'm not sure, but I think that you can save to .doc too.
    I take it you're looking for something a bit more advanced that TextEdit then?

    Another possibility is to save your word files as .rtf (rich text format) this way you can also avoid spreading macro virii too !

    I do this regularly without any problems for standard text documents.

    TextEdit can open .doc files - fecks up any fancy formatting though.
