FESTIVAL OF WORLD CULTURES WANTS YOU TO BE PART OF SOMETHING SPECIAL

2005 has been designated as the Year of the Volunteer, acknowledging the
work of millions worldwide, who give of their time and skills for no reward,
other than the simple knowledge that they actively make a meaningful
contribution to the society they live in.

Volunteers are certainly the life-blood of the FESTIVAL OF WORLD CULTURES
and their involvement has grown exponentially as this vibrant annual
    celebration has gained momentum.

Now in its 5th year, the FESTIVAL OF WORLD CULTURES, a Dun Laoghaire
Rathdown County Council event, carves a special groove on the global world
music circuit and is Ireland’s foremost intercultural event. With more than
160 events in 40 venues and featuring artists from 50 countries the Festival
entertains audiences in excess of 160,000 with its diverse and expanding
programme of music, circus, theatre, dance, club nights, markets,
exhibitions, workshops and activities for children.

The festival organisers are seeking around 300 volunteers to assist in a
wide variety of tasks including the welcome of international artists at
Dublin airport; stewarding and crowd control; working with children in The
People’s Park and making up lunch packs. All volunteers are given Health &
Safety training, a pack of goodies from various sponsors and they enjoy the
privilege of automatic membership to the Festival Club. Most of all,
however, they are an integral part of something special.

This year’s festival takes place on Friday 26th, Saturday 27th and Sunday
    28th August.

Anyone who wishes to join the volunteers working on this exciting event
    should contact Dawn Parkinson, Volunteer Co-ordinator T: 087 668 9739
