Dodgy Screen

    "well what was happening previously is that the screen would be very dark, but i could still make out the desktop. so i'd press lightly where the LCD and laptop meet (either side of the power buttons in the middle) and the screen would light up like normal.

    now though the screen is completely dark. the laptop does start up as normal, its makes all the usual noises and light flashes. when i press in the same place, the screen flashes white, usually with thin lines of different colours running across it.


    i still have a few months left of my year run warranty but hopefully it wont come to that!"

    JUst got the above from a friend.

    Its a Dell Inspirion 5160.

    I reckon its just a wire or screw out of place. Dont have laptop infront of me to have a look (its in England)

    Any one have any ideas as to cause of problem and solution?

    Hi Kearnsr,

    Sounds like the backlight is gone on your screeen.
    Advised to get onto Dell and get to replaced

    id b a bit worried bout the lines flashing when u press, by anychance does it look like ink is running through the screen? i mean like an ink blotch?

    No ink blotch. With out actually seeing the screen i reckon its just the backlight gone. Told my friend to get in touch with Dell. Waiting for him to get back to me
