Keyboard a bit jumbled

For a time I was using a large keyboard (standard desktop size) into my dell laptop for ease of typing. I am now trying to use the laptop without the additional keyboard and the keys are mixed up. When pressing j,k,l,u,i,o, it types 1,2,3,4,5,6 (the keyboard's function equivelant). This means I cannot type properly.
When the laptop is running I can plug in the additional keyboard and the laptop's keyboard will be running properly again. However whenever I restart it without the additional keyboard the keys are mixed up again.

Any ideas how I can fix this?

Take the num lock off - when the num lock is on, , jkl becomes 123, uio becomes 456 and 789 stay the same - it's like a numeric keypad within the keyboard.

Press the Fn key and then the num lock key and you should be sorted - just check the leds.

There should be a key called "Padlock" somewhere...in the case of a laptop I have it would be in small green writing, requiring the "Fn" key to be held down to activate it.

Fn+Pad Lock should turn off the numeric key access on the laptop keyboard.
