AVG firewall blocking mail access?

    Hi,

I'm using a trial version of the new AVG firewall on W2K, but it seems to stop me using some password protected sites correctly. For example, if I login to yahoo mail with the firewall up, I can get into the first page of yahoo mail (where the big ad is on the right). Then, if I click on 'inbox' to check my mail, nothing happens except the bottom pane of my firefox says 'Waiting for ukf547.mail.yahoo.co.uk....' (or something very close to that). After a few minutes it will time out without loading. If I deactivate the firewall briefly, I can click on the same 'inbox' link and it loads straight away.

Does anyone know, is there a setting I can adjust in firefox or the AVG firewall to avoid having to drop the firewall to use yahoo mail?

I'm going to try some of the other firewalls to see if any don't have this problem. Any advice on firewalls with respect to this particular problem would be much appreciated.

There have been problems with AVG and email programs(outlook express, thunderbird) being blocked but it usually shouldnt cause problems with online e-mail sites, your probably better off using a firewall from ZoneLabs

Thanks for the tip. But, I've been searching through the archives here and found a recent thread where some people had problems uninstalling zonealarm ( http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=272124 ). I think I'll try kerios next and see if the Yahoo Mail problem goes away.

I don't understand what's causing it - but if I can make it go away by changing software, well and good. Cheers for letting me know that AVG is causing problems for other applications too, time for it to go.
