The villian is an ok player, unlike most at this level he has the ability to lay hands down, although like most of the players at this level he very rarely bets the pot. I checked my big blind, though i would often make a small value raise here. I bet the large wrap on the flop, and when I am raised by this player i decide that I am up against a set, intending to give the hand up if I don't catch on the turn. When the turn brings a flush draw I bet out, reckoning that I'm going to call a bet here anyway, and if I'm wrong and he doesn't have a set, he might fold. I was sure that if he bet and i called, he would not call a river bet if I hit, as it would be an obvoius scare card.

What I was most surprised about was that having used a couple of different odds calculators, it turns out that I am a small favourite with only one card to come (55%), having been worse than 60-40 behind on the flop and worse than that again before the flop, where he flops the nuts. He had one of his own blockers (a ten) and I had three hearts in my hand, leaving only 8 flush outs.

    Omaha is mental.

    vnh!

Chris ferguson cannot believe other pros can make it without his knowledge of mathematics/pot odds etc... I don't think enough players (including myself) spend enough time learning the maths. Faced with that hand in a $50/$100 PLO would you have been as confident on the turn? Obviously with the odds laid out you'd have stuck your tank in on the turn, but I think a lot of players would have played the turn incorrectly and not maximised their profit from this hand..

I intend to work on that aspect of my game a lot...

I think my turn decision is made a lot easier by the fact that betting the pot puts my opponent all in. If we both have a few hundred BB's then he can put me to a difficult decision by raising the pot. having said that, even if this were the case, I'd be getting even money on a 55/45 shot. I think with deep stacks and bigger limits this is still the correct play.

It's one of those cases in omaha where both players would probably be quite happy to put all of their money in the pot even if they could see the other guy's hand.

i 100% agree it is the correct play, regardless of stack sizes etc, as long as you have reserves! you should always go for a 55/45 shot if you are comfortable at the level u are playing at.. my point is you were ahead, even aginst top set, and most players would not have known that.

Yep weird though it sounds that can be a pseudo-reasonable situation in Omaha.

I comtemplate this hand in a Zen-like fashion from time to time. I thought I had him completely over a barrel. I'm only 51% to win the hand. Note his blocker to the possible top set.

I'd personally raise the flop with a draw like that when there are no flush draws out there. Definitely bet the turn hard.
I wouldn't value raise preflop with that hand when I'm in the BB since you will be out of position if someone reraises you.

Nicely played and Omaha is mental in a good way.

I remember flopping top set in a $750 pot on VC. Nice one I thought, but I was actually a considerable dog. Similar to getting all in on a flush draw plus overcard in hold em. Luckily the turn was the case Ace!
