Can any of you good folk suggest a good place in town to look for the likes of Greek History and Mythology and maybe some Nordic Mythology?

I don't know any shops that specialise in that topic. I'd imagine that you'd be likely to come across something in Hodges Figgis though. They do quite a range of 3rd level books and I know my brother who had studied Classics in college for the last 3 years has found a lot of books for his course there. The bargain basement sometimes has great offers on college books.

Otherwise Amazon is all I can think of.

Bargain basement you say? Are we talking about Hodges Fidges on Dawson Street?

I was in Chapters last week, I remember seeing a few Greek history books there.
For Greek mythology try to get hold of a copy of Robert Graves' Greek Myths, if you can. Not good on interpretation but you get a very readable version of pretty much all the myths and their variants.

Greene's also has some classical stuff now and again, and so did the Hidden Book and Record store last time I was in there.

If you mean the 200-page "short introduction to classical myth," then yes it is, particularly if you don't have much background knowledge of the Greek world. But if you mean the big 700-page volume, I'd advise against it, as it's not really well-suited to independent learning. If you want a textbook try Morford & Lenardon's Classical Mythology instead.

Oh, and I saw a few introductory mythology books down in the bargain basement in Hodges Figgis today, just fyi.

good point. but don't forget the library of apollodorus. in the multi-volume loeb edition with commentary by frazer if you can afford it....

hodges figgis has a fairly good selection of classical texts in translation in the bargain basement, btw. not always they most readable but they're worth looking into if you're on a budget.
