I don't know is this the right place to post this(please don't castigate me ) but my aunt is after getting Chorus Digital installed and can't set a timer to work on the video. The decoder box has only scart leads coming out at the back(no rf) so I can't tune her video in to the decoder. It's really p!ssing me off because the decoder keeps coming up on the Phillips video machine as E1 channel, which can't be selected on the timer screen.
Any ideas on setting a timer, she not happy with it at all!

    Much appricated,
    Pa

Does the VCR not have a scart port?

If the VCR has a scart connection set it up this way.

VCR to the scart port on the decoder labelled 'VCR'
    TV to the 'TV' port.

There is a tv feed to both ports, but the VCR port is volume set, so you cannot adjust it.

Then, set your timers on the VCR and either make sure you have the channel that you want on..or set up a timer in the decoder box to switch to that channel at that time.

If I read his post correctly - yes, and that seems to be the problem because he can't select the auxilliary channel (E1) on the timer record screeen.

Are you sure, you can't, however? If you try channel up/down will it not get to E1/E2 eventually? What about if you press 0?

Depending on how recent the Philips VCR is, most philips remote controls have an "AV" button on the remote. When you are programming the VCR, when it comes to the part where you put in the channel number, simply press the "AV" button and "E1" or "E2" should appear, depending on which scart you connected the STB to the VCR with. Although, as mentioned before, using the Up / Down channel key should eventually bring you to E1 / E2.

Alternatively, I think a good few Philips VCRs have a think called "Record Link" in the Setup menu whereby it "listens" for record command signals on the scart lead and when it hears such, it will kick in the record function. If you DO have this on your VCR, then just set up a timed recording through the Menu on the Chorus STB, and when the programme starts the STB will switch over to the channel and tell the VCR to start recording, at which stage the VCR will kick in recording from the scart input provided there is a blank tape in it. Another handy thing about it is, the STB will "lock out" while a recording is progress so it will appear unresponsive and ignore any channel changing or power off commands. You can turn the volume up and down as normal but the volume on the recording won't change and the volume bar won't appear either. Also, if there's a power cut the STB will automatically boot itself up and turn onto the channe and resume recording. If you DO set up a recording and later want to cancel it before its finished, just press and hold the "Menu" key for 10 seconds.

    Hope this helps :)
