    She is in hiding momentarely

From what I saw of the news is she is in hiding and personally I don't blame her.

Also Irish lotto doesn't have enough money to cover the winnings so it is busy getting te money wired to it. Considering the amount of cash I doubt very much she will turn up where people will know her.

Just heard on the news that she can't collect it until tomorrow or thursday as they have to collect the money off the other eight countries.

The French are tight...she could be waiting awhile for them to hand over their share!

I'd say the other people in the pub, where she found out she'd won, blabbed to everyone else. I remember reading in a sunday newspaper that a "family friend" , sold pictures of the moments when she saw that she had won to a tabloid for €25000. Some friend :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,268 ✭✭✭Zapho

Not only did they blab, she gave it to a friend of hers to check the numbers and he shouted out in the middle of the pub "You won!!!" so everybody knew! And here name was published in the paper, along with the most part of her address so there's no chance she can keep this secret now. Her best bet would be to leave the country I think.

So far, the winner has not come to the National Lottery Office Dublin to claim here prize, However another Irish winner of €667,248 in Friday's Euro Millions draw has claimed their prize. The other winner got 5 numbers and 1 Star winning their €667,248. That is a big difference between the highest prize and the second highest prize. That is a problem with most lotteries. The jackpot should be smaller with more money put into the lower prizes. The prize funds should be spread out over more of the prize categories. A jackpot half or even a quarter of that would still be well worth winning. You could have better match 4 or 5 numbers in the Lotto and still have a big jackpot. People would still play.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,967 ✭✭✭Dun

That's the problem though, I think it would effect the amount of people playing. Look how many people play, even people you know that wouldn't normally play, when there's a rollover jackpot. I think that it would make more sense to the average player to have the lower prizes increased, but then I'm speaking as a non-lotto player.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,005 ✭✭✭✭Flukey

An increasing Jackpot is always going to bring people in, no matter where you start from. So the same would happen. A €5,000,000 here gets the country playing like crazy, let alone €115,000,000. Also if people know they can win larger amounts in the other categories, that would encourage them to play.

That other claimant of the prize €667,248 is apparently a Hungarian national, working in Dublin. Apparently the prize is about 100 times the annual wage in Hungary. An amount like that is great to win, which is my point. A smaller jackpot and bigger small prizes would be better.

I play a lot and I have got 4 numbers on occasions. That pays about an average of €46 which is a big difference between the minimum jackpot of €1,350,000. Even 5 numbers or 5 and the bonus pays a relatively small amount. Last Saturday the 5 and the bonus prize was €12,000 and 5 numbers paid just €1,290. Of course the jackpot should be much bigger than the other prizes, but they could reduce it a bit and increase the smaller prizes and still maintain a large gap.

i think she should be left to enjoy her good luck, and the papers should stop looking for her, i would not have gone public if it was me,

"apparently" the guy who grabbed the ticket and said "you won" pissed her off so much that she called the guards.

in all fairness though you cant really go anywhere after a sudden win for over 100million. she will be pretty sought after in the next 12 months.

she's even got a few kidnapping threats already i hear!
i'd do it! for only a million ransom.

I think some of these idiots would rather be famous than rich. That's why they go public when they win.

Just out of interest, do the Lotto give sweeteners to winning syndicates etc who do the whole smiles and champagne photo-opportunity bit or do they just give the winners a bit of blarney saying they won't get the cheque until they go thru with it?

Me personally I wouldn't tell anyone, not even my family that I'd won. They'd just have to live under the suspicion that the new houses&cars I was buying for them was from the profits of drugs and live with it.

She didn't mean to go public. She asked a friend of hers who was in a pub to check her numbes for her and she started screaming which pretty much let the cat out of the bag...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,921 ✭✭✭✭Pigman II

Well wasn't that quite a ridicularse thing of her to do that then wasn't it?

Was a check SO urgent that she needed to go flashing a potentially €115m ticket around in a pub?

In hindsight, yes but in fairness I doubt she expected to win the whole thing!

They won't be able to pay out until at least tomorrow afternoon, as money has to come in from the other countries.

thats the biggest after tax jackpot in the worlds history, the guy who one the 315million dollar powerball jackpot accepted 113million dollars in a lump sum after all taxes so her jackpot win is worth 20 million dollars more than that.well done :)

It's going to be a really really tough decision whether to move out of Limerick or not after winning E112 million? Are you mad? Why is it a tough decision? Risk of hurricanes in the Bahamas?

    You can keep your winnings

This week's Holy Moly mailout suggests the following reason for her going public:
The dreadful salad onion-faced woman who won the lottery is the matriarch of a huge drug-selling family in Ireland.

The real reason she happily went so large on publicity is that she didn't want other members of the family to get their hands on the ticket (after she had a nasty accident).

She rang the local police and begged them to take the ticket into custody. They have actually been heard saying that they'll be using the cash to buy more guns and...wait for it...

    ...loads of scratchcards.

    YOU CAN'T BOTTLE CLASS!!

Dont be so mean everyone, she won the ticket fair and square.
Its besides the point who her family is, !

I wish her the best of luck and hope the money doesnt turn into a tradegy.

u guys are funny, to leave home and head for the bahamas to a secluded life is lunacy, they say rapid lifestyle changes lead to great unhapiness.

she could always leave limerick and head for the sunnier climes of galway :D

    Who is "they"?
"They" say lots of things.... and "they" usually tend to be people with not enough money!

"Money doesn't make the world go round" - maybe not, but it sure helps!!
"Money cant buy you happiness" - the motto of a poorman.... :D
