Need a bit of help on this one. Got an MSI K8n Neo platinum mobo. and put it into a new ATX case with an Athlon 64 3200 chip, an IDE HD 20gig and a graphics card (nvidia FX5200) with 1gig stick of ram and powered it up and received a 2 second beep followed by a pause followed by another 2 second beep and this keeps going. No display at all. I figured the RAM, placed a different manufacturer with 512 in it then, which worked before in it, and it powered up for about 4 seconds and then it powered off but lights still on at the front. I'm stumped. Is the mobo knackered? Why 2 different error messages with 2 different sticks? I think everything else is fine. Thoughts...Ideas?????

Im sorry if this is ridiculously obvious but have you got power going to your graphics card? Off the top of my head the FX5200 needs to be connected to the power supply yeah?

Dont know about your problem, but my FX5200 does not need external power, I just shoved it into my AGP slot and it did the job.

remove all stuff u dont need like graphics card and sound card and c if u still get the beeps. check the mobo manual too as the beeping may b some kinda error like some mobo have 4 LED's at the back

Yes, every MSI mobo I've ever used has a well documented diagnostic system of beeps and flashing lights (if you plug in a D-Bracket or equivalent at the back).

It's probably something silly like you didn't plug in the CPU fan. Happened to me the first time I built a PC.

Well guys, thanks for the ideas.

Archytas - the 5200 is powered straight through the mobo and seems to be fine. Incidentally, tried another card...same problem.

Ri-Nollaig - removed everthing and reseated. Still the same constant beeping. Everything spinning should be spinning. Took out ram and card and powered up and the same type of beeping took place. CPU is in fine. The only thing I'd e wary of is the correct placing of the thin cable casing wires onto the mobo but I think these are fine also.

    Any other ideas?

check the master / slave settings on the hdd?
    might be casuing problems.

check the cmos jumpers as well to make sure their in the right position.

    What do you mean by

, I have the same mobo and it didn't need these (if they're what I think they are). If you don't have the d-bracket connected, connect it and see what the LEDs say, they're pretty helpfull.

i think he means the wires for usb ports / leds etc on the case.
if you think you got them worng,
disconnect them all and boot up then,
you can re-connect them after you confirm there not the problem as theyre not essential for booting the pc [except the power button one ;) ]

    Try this.

Check to see if the ide cable is touching off the motherboard.
(assuming you 20gig is an ide...)

Sometimes an ide cable touching off a mobo can stop it booting.

Sounds silly but it once drove my friend mad for about 2 days running until he figured it out.

He had similar problems as you, constant beeping and a blank screen.

Moved the ide cable and everything worked. Mad. Worth a try at least :-)

I've tried all suggested so far....no luck.....I think it's the RAM myself but until I get a branded compatible stick, I'll try anything else.

    cheers..

Diff componants but my computer double beeps when the floppy drive isnt connected properly...

Reset the bios, the ram thing is weird tho..

Aire-tam_storm - Don't have a floppy attached to it. Surely that wouldn't affect it?...or would it?
