    Hi from Risc.

We have three things to tell you:

    1. Inches on Friday in Tralee
    2. Boxes & Inches this Sunday in Lazybird
    3. Herv - 'Introduction to Synthesisers' CD-R

    1. Inches on Friday in Tralee

This Friday, 5th of August, in The Greyhound Bar in Tralee, ClubHeadBangBang will be putting on Inches' debut gig, and it's free in.

(A quick note: Hot Press magazine have this gig in their 'top 10 gigs of the fortnight' list, but got the details wrong. So just to clarify, it's Inches, on Friday 5th, and *not* Maersk on Thursday 4th.)

Inches is a three-piece band who have formed out of Maersk (who are on hiatus at the moment). Seeing as this is their debut gig, it's a bit hard to describe what they're like, but they play music that is occasionally like The For Carnation, June of 44, um, Fugazi, Autechre, random noises, drones, mid-80s stadium rock, and about a million other things. You'll have to just head along and find out. Also playing is DJ Modh Coinniolach and DJ Miss Euros.

    2. Boxes & Inches this Sunday in Lazybird

This sunday in Lazybird, In the best lineup of of bands-with-plural-names-but-without-definite-articles that Dublin has seen in years, Boxes and Inches will be presenting their aural wares. Lazybird is upstairs in the International Bar, Wicklow Street, Dublin 2, the gig starts at 9pm, adm. 5 euros.

About Boxes: Boxes is a two-piece rock band based in Dublin, Ireland. Gavin is the singer/guitarist/bassist, Mark is the drummer. They've been playing for three years and have supported Nomeansno, The Ex, Zu and loads of others. They are about to release their second album which they recorded in Electrical Audio in Chicago in April 2005. Their first album 'Big ships in the night small boats in the morning' was released in August 2003.

About Inches: Well, just read that paragraph up there again. This gig will be Inches' Dublin debut.

    3. Herv - 'Introduction to Synthesisers' CD-R

There is a new Herv release out at the moment, 'Introduction to Synthesisers'; it's a CD-R of early Herv material (from 1998-2002), outtakes, and material that wasn't included on Snap Hands, his debut album. It's the second release on Go Away Records, a CD-R-only label run by Herv for releasing various things that might not otherwise get heard (the first release on the label was the album 'Pulsing Quiche Gas' by Phriz-B, aka early material by The Last Sound). We'll be giving more details about this and other Go Away releases in the next mailout.

That's all for now, thanks for reading.
