i deferred 5th year in DIT, i had to send a letter to my head of department and get his written approval and guarantee of a placement when i did return. if it's the same system, make sure you notify them around march or april of you intention to return in september 2006.

    why defer? any big plans?

I deferred on about three days notice in 2003 because I only learned that I passed in early September. Talk to your head of department and talk to admin, but I think I just had to write a letter. It's very simple as far as I remember, though it may have changed.

OP- go into the Registrar's section on the ground floor of the Admin building and they will be able to advise you. See below it is advised to speak to your department/Faculty(college) first.

But beware, you may be treated as though the cat dragged you in after mauling you a bit.

hey thanks man. My head of department seems to be a bit of a **** though. Left three messages on his machine, really doesn't seem like he's getting back to me.

OP it's the summer - academics are like big foot very hard to find. Go back to your department website and call the administrator and ask him/her for advise on the next person to call. There is normally a deputy around when the HOD is in the South of France. Or PM me and I'll let you know exactly who to talk to - time is ticking so you should sort this out soon.
