There should be a Firefox board.

What with the New Deer Park releases, and a new stable build this month, a board would certainly be active. The "Open Source" board isn't enough, as Firefox is more than just another Open Source program IMO, does anyone feel the same?

ah but then you'd have to set up a IE board and a Netscape board to be fair to all...

It's a web browser. Please, try to get over it.

Besides, the only thing posted in a Firefox board would be a sticky with useful things to make Firefox faster or more useful. Everything else would be "switch back to IE".

Same deal with an IE board, it would just be threads full of "get firefox".

And round and round the merry-go-round we go...

There should be a fanboy board instead.

i was reading up on internet addiction, and one of the many symptoms is "trying out differnet web browsers"

so if you find the idea of a different browser interesting, you should definately limit the amount of time you spend online, or even go cold turky for a month, and see how exciting a new browser is then

Never mind individual boards for browsers, an umbrella "Internet" board does seem like a hale idea.

Well, first I tried this one browser, but after time it didn't give the same satisfaction as it used to. So a friend let me try his browser, it was bigger, more secure and generally stronger. Now I only use that. Only that. Only that.

There isn't that much variety in browsers, imo, when you get right down to it.

In Linux and OSX, Epiphany, Camino, Firefox, Mozilla and several other graphical browsers use the Gecko engine. Safari and Opera stand alone here. For CLI browsers, Lynx and the superior Links2 use the same core.

In Windows, Avant and several other "IE-based" browsers are basically new front-ends for IE.

And so on. So there's less than you'd imagine.

Personally I stick with and use Firefox for its extensibility, customizability and portability-there's a version for any OS and hardware platform you can think of (I use x86 and PPC Gentoo Linux, OS X and Windows XP), I can change the UI to any setup I like and there's a plugin for everything, honest to god.

Maybe an "Internet" board, but there's definately no need for a board dedicated to Firefox.

Why? What would an Internet discussion board bring? I can see it being influxed with pretty much nothing more that "What a kewl websight I founderered" posts.

To be honest, there's not a single reason to swith to IE.

Windows Update with a better degree of control that automatic updates offer? Thats one.

I vote for a Firefox board, however it should be mandatory for Firefox evangelists, and subscribers should be prevented from visiting any other forums on Boards.ie. Better yet, keep them off the rest of the Internet altogether.

How do you mean the opensource board is'ent enough?
There's ONE firefox thread in their and YOU started it tonight!

I'm a big fan of firefox but in fairness having a firefox board would be a waste of precious 1's and 0's.

I vote down this idea!

Now stop trying to increase your thread count with ideas you hasn't even thought about for more then 1 second :D

Thread counts and post counts suck, they encourage mindless spamming. Most forums I visit work by different systems, and as you may have noticed I am new here. My motivation was merely my love of Firefox

The large animated flashing avatars and lifestory-theses-for-signature system?

But I'm getting off topic here...

No, the text based system with no avatars and 2 line sigs system. Much better for us dial up users.

    A text based Internet forum?

What will they think of next! Perhaps they'll do something like compress images to make them viewable online! Pure fantasy I'm sure though.

I was a primarily dialup user until about 3 months ago, I've never had a problem with forums as they are.
Does slashdot count as a forum? That's the only one that I can think of which you probably mean by "text-based".
That said, I've hardly visited every popular forum online.

I think a firefox board would be pants tbh. There are feck all posts in this forum about firefox. 2 per week? The only really useful ones are "new version released" and the one that gets repeated about once every other month about speeding up firefox. That's it really.
