I had 2 e-mail accounts operating in Outlook Express, on my work computer. There was literally hundreds of e-mails in the inbox from both acounts a fair few of which i needed. I came into work today to find all of them gone, send/receive not working and when i went to view existing accounts it turns out i have none. Now about 5 people use the computer but no-one is saying a word. I thought about doing a system restore but it was turned off maybe, cos i work in a hotel and someone was worried about the effect a system restore might have on the reservation system. Anyone have any ideas, were these accounts deleted, is there any way i can get them back, or what??

check the store folder in maintenance in the options of OE. It may be changed to another location. Search your computer for pst or (dbx?) files to see if you see files named inbox, outbox etc

hmmmmmm......cant find a store folder, or a mainainance for that matter in my OE options. nothing comes up of relevance in a search for pst but when i search under dbx ai got a good few database fiiles and the inbox one looks just about the right size to be holding all my e-mails....any pointers on how to retrieve them or what sorta software i need to do so?

    Right sounds good.
Go to the location of these files. You should see them all in there like Inbox.dbx, outbox.dbx etc.
Create a folder on C or what ever letter of your drive is. Call it "email account"
Copy all the contents of the previous folder to this.
Open outlook express. Click tools-> Options. click the maintenance tab. You should see a button labled "Store Folder" half way down, click this.
Click the Change button on the dialog and browse to "C:\email account"
It will ask you something but i think its fairly obvious what to click next after that.
Restart outlook express and you should see all your emails there.
Re-setting up the email address's shouldn't be a problem. Find who set your email up, as these simply just settings

Hmm you may not be using outlook express then. Are you using MS Outlook?

..............boy do i feel sheepish.....i just assumed.....i know i know never assume, it makes an sas out of u AND me!!! A thousand apologies....and yes Im using MS Outlook,,,lousy similar names

No problem. Ok if you have them files copied to C:\email account. You can try importing the mails. I think if you click File-> Import. Theres an option of importing from Outlook Express. Maybe you can select the folder and it will import.
If not, go through what i said in outlook express. If outlook express loads all your emails, then good. Close outlook express and open MS Outlook and try importing from outlook express again. I think MS outlook will automatically grab all the emails from outlook express without having the specify a folder. Hope this work. Good luck on it

If they were deleted you could use a File Recovery program to get them back.

Wheely - i ran a load of AV and Spyware programs and a few showed up nothing major though. Searched for Archives and my PST and nadda, Rebooted and went to C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft and found four files. 3 office data files and one dat file (the smallest one was my current PST) and the other two are the same size and called Outlook & Outlook1. I imported outlook and bob was my uncle (File-import/Export-import from another file-next-import PST): whats baffling me my PST isnt labbeled as a PST its an Archive and i swera i didnt touch a thing:confused:

    Hope ya get it back.
