Divx to DVD?

I have a couple of divx files on my pc and need to burn them to dvd. I have Sonic but when I try to use MyDVD and load a file, it either says it can't do it because it's NTSC or else goes way over the size of 4.7gb, even tho the file is 700mb. Anyone know how to solve this? I can download any necessary files, but I still need to be able to use Sonic, so nothing that takes its place like Nero.

    Thanks.

    Just to clarify:

You trying to burn them as data files onto a DVD to be played in a DIVX / XVID Player (or to save space off hard drive)? Or converting them into MPEG2 format so they'll play on any DVD Player.

I use a program called, strangely enough, DivXtoDVD :)

It converts to vob etc and you can burn using whatever program you want.

Yeah.. you can use that or TMpgENC (search for it in Google). Providing you just want them to be viewed in any standard DVD player.

No so I can watch. I want to be able to make a dvd menu with a couple of divx. Does it matter that they were downloaded from USA?

After converting with TMPGENC, try using TMPGENC DVD Author (also can be found by searching Google to create DVD's with menu's etc.

It shouldn't matter that they were US Divx's... provided your TV supports NTSC / 29.97fps / 23.76fps framerate! (most TV's do)

    Best of luck!

I tried Divx-to-DVD and it's the same problem. it makes it look like the files are huge. Trying TMP now.

If you're stuck, use this guide with gui4ffmpeg

    Seems pretty straight forward!

Tip: If files appear too big, lower the bitrate!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 629 ✭✭✭sterculelum

By how much? Will that lower the quality?

I used AVI DivX MPEG to DVD Converter & Burner and when it worked it worked very well
    I got it here: http://www.anytodvd.com/

Is that just a trial though?

Shouldn't lower it too much - you won't notice any real quality-loss on a TV screen anyways!

nero vision express, excellent solution, well worth the few odd quid you'll have to pay for it...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,500 ✭✭✭Fabritzo

Gives full use for a while I think, have a look about and you might find it cheaper.

    ...nero vision express...
    Sounds like an optician...! :D

    Quite right.

To convert, do I have to play the whole movie (like if you were copying a cassette)? Can you be a bit more specific about the bit rate, cuz I really haven't a clue...

get nero-vision, there's no worrying about bit-rate etc etc, you just add the movies, make chapters, make a (crappy) menu and press "burn" a (reasonably long) while later you have yourself a nice quality movie..

it does give the odd problem, but you can use the other solutions to fix it then..
or if it's too big, just use dvdshrink to shrink it down, with minimal quality loss..
(presuming you have a pretty big hd)

it is by far the easiest solution to good quality dvd's imo..
and i've tried a good few..

Is there anything out there that basically converts Avi and Mpeg to DVD format. And does not need to be bought (ie no trial versions) and also doesnt take hours to convert

Could you not use DivxToDVD to convert to VOB and then use DVD Shrink to fit it onto a standard DVD Disk?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 629 ✭✭✭sterculelum

    Does that reduce the quality?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 629 ✭✭✭sterculelum

And do you have to play the whole movie's duration through while it converts, or does it do it in a matter of minutes? I'm talking about making the VOB.

Same problem here ster, I understand the problem, i have tried many Software, best IMO is Nero or Some producer product's... Anyway , no matter what i try, Converting 700Mb DivX files to DVD all go to about 7-8 Gb... Which is useless to fit on a 4.7GB DVD, I am so pissed of my self trying to get it to work... More then likely i need a dual layer burner but i dont see how DVD's bought in a shop fit a Movie onto a 4.7GB DVD... So there must be a way of making it fit.

    Hj

    Any help appreciated also.

Exactly my problem. Good to see I'm not the only one. I know a friend who can do it no bother though. And I don't want to have to lose lots of quality.

    Someone please help us.

Heh, im sure there are plenty more out there... And i dont think quality is the matter here... Its just something simple im sure that the software thinks a Dual Layer burner is in operation when its not...

There must be a way of getting it to work as its pointless having a DVD burner thats not Dual layer apart from data back up reason's... And how would people of made DVD's over a year ago before Dual layer became the standard. I would really like to start using my DVD-RW, its never been used once really for DVD purposes and i am fed up wasting DVD's on trying to get this to work.

    Hj

Yeah. Well I use it already for copying (, to make backups of course ), so I'm not wasting it really. But I really wanna be able to burn divx.

I have transferred many divX files of 700Mb size to DVD with DivXtoDVD and I never had that problem. The largest DVD I ended up with was about 3Gb. If you are using DivXtoDVD and encountering files of 7-8Gb, your settings within the software must be wrong. Sorry, but that's all I can think of. Another program is DVDSanta but I ran into audio synch problems with that a couple of times.

With DivxtoDVD, do you have to play through the whole movie's duration, or does it sort of scan through it? I have a lot of them to burn, so I don't want to have to wait 2 hrs for each one...

From memory I think it takes about the same time as the length of the movie or slightly less. That's what it is for me anyway. I am not aware of a program that does this in like 15 mins or so (the way DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter can back-up discs) . How many DivX discs are we talking about here?

    A lot. Why?

    A lot. Why?
Just get a standalone dvd player than can play divx then, and less silly questions

Just wondering why transferring for a couple of hours each would be a problem. if you have too many to transfer perhaps you should buy a DVD player which is DivX compatible.

But I want to be able to watch on PS2 and stuff. Time isn't really that much of a problem anyway, as long as I can just do it...

Got the proper version of VSO DivXToDVD (the other one was completely different) and it seems to be going ok. Looks like it will take 45mins for a 90min movie. I will report back. ;)

AHA! I've got it! I used DivXToDVD and then shrunk with DVD Shrink and burnt with DVD Decrypter. No menus (that I know of) but who cares! Now to make a start...

No noticeable quality difference either btw.

Agreed - this has provided the most stable results for me too

Anyone know how you make an image with the subtitles (I have them on the computer, and they work) blended with the movie, using DivXToDVD? Or do I do that in DVD Shrink?

I got it. I used VirtualDub and figured it out. You have to play through the whole movie though (just to put the subtitles on). It's all plain sailing from here then...

    have a quick question.

i used nero to burn movies. created a menu and waited for hours! but when i stuck in my dvd player the picture was distorted. the picture was even distorted in my dvd drive on pc.

    any ideas what happened?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,472 ✭✭✭AdMMM

The problem I have with Nerovision is that I can't compile a movie and burn it straight to DVD or I will get an error half way through, instead I must burn to an image first and then burn that image to DVD. Strange but it's a lot less complicated then other programmes got when the shìt hit the fan!
