I'm taking a break away from everything for a week (which may turn to two weeks) so I'm heading to the opposite side of the country on a shoestring budget and living like a bum in some sort of Kerouac fashion.

    Couple of questions:
    1. Cheapest hostel/cheaper alternative to hostel?
    2. Is there anywhere I can sit in peace? How far outside the city would I have to go to get that?
    3. In case I run out of clothes, do ye have a Penneys where I can go get t-shirts for €2?
    4. Are there any safe places to be at night? Not that I'll be carrying much... who wants to rob a poor man
    5. Cheap food?

Q2 - Try the Phoenix Park - one of the biggest urban green spaces in Europe. Plenty of isolated spots. That or make your way towards the Wicklow mountains somehow.

    Q3 - Plenty

I'm not sure why you would want to go to Dublin for this, but different strokes for different folks!

I just need to get away and Dublin is along a nice route... Plus I could probably feed myself with some ****e busking. At galway buskers are out until 3am, is it worth it in Dublin?

A good place on Grafton can get you a pretty penny

    Cheap Food-

Slice of Pizza in Eamonn Dorans Pub

Baguette from any Shop,Spar, etc.. Sit in Phoenix Park/Stephens Green/Trinity College eating it.

Thanks for the replies... some people here seem to think that Dublin is a bad choice of city... is it really that bad?

Why not go to Cork....City of Culture and all that ..... it's cool to be a bum in Cork this year.....Seriously, busking could be quite lucrative ;)
