    Hi Guys,

Just trying to clear up a debate with a friend, in MMA what striking is allowed, specifically are elbows/forearms/heel palm/hammer fists etc. allowed or are you only allowed strike with your gloved part of your hands (only interested in punching not kicking) also are you allowed strike an oponent on the ground (kicking included) or does it all depend on the particular competition rules.

Final thing are you restricted in where you can strike, what's area's are ok, what's not & what frounded upon but is difficult for ref/judge to spot ?

    Thanks for the help.
    Stephen

Kicks on to a grounded opponent?

To the legs and body legal in most MMA competition.

To the head legal in Pride FC. Illegal in most MMA competition.

    Elbows/Forearms

Legal in UFC rules. Legal in many major MMA competitions.

Elbows are illegal in Pride FC rules.

    Heel/Hammer fists

Tend to be allowed in most MMA rules

    It depends on the organisation

In general all strikes are allowed (with any weapon) to everywhere except the knackers!

The UFC (USA) disallow knees to the head on the ground,`spike elbows` ie elbows moving directly downwards in the plane of your own body, and kicking a downed opponent.

Pride (Japan) disallow elbows of any description.

In Brazil, in some events, they still use the old rules - no biting, no eye gouging and no fishhooking. Strikes to the knackers and all!

Just been watching K1 on eurosport LaBanner Vs Albibi.

Albi seemed out on his feet from the 2nd round and taking awful punishment got several standin counts (From boxing experience I recon he would have been tko'd for lack of an intellegent defence) but the ref let it carry on til final round before stopping it was wondering what exactly the rules are regards stoppageses

Did that Kickboxing dude ever release a public statement after that fight? Retract his earlier comments?

Pressure point strikes tend not to be allowed. Its a massive conspiracy by the K-1 and MMA community as they know that if a competitor proficient in pressure point fighting enters the ring or cage then we're all screwed.
