Anyone seen the ad for TV3, where they give you a choice of three movies to vote on (by text) for Sunday, July 31st? Not a bad idea, but 60c per text? Come on TV3 - stop being scrooges. It's bad enough to see you charge €1 per entry for so-called 'free' competitions.......but 60c to vote for a movie????!!!!:confused::confused::confused:

Why is it a rip-off? It's not exactly an essential life-saving service, is it? If you don't like the price, don't participate - simple solution.

Because they're a commercial business that has to make money to survive?

BBC is best for movies... the worst is RTE! They have those 'back for more' things that are like twice as loud as the usual.

TV3 are ok, but i dont know y? They cut to ads at good times and they are pretty short (many short ad breaks rather than few long ones)

    short breaks on TV3?????
watching some movies on TV3, they have some short ones but then they will have a really long one. i counted an ad break at 11 minutes one time

what really annoys me about most channels these days is the break for news. it is horrible and i dont know why they do it as i tend to not watch them and surely there is more like me. it makes it worse when they dont advertise that there will be news, isn't that right RTÉ Two

Is that the irritating Aero sponsorship things? Do they still have those? I haven't seen RTE in a good while.

for 2 euro you could rent the movies they have from xtravision.
why pay 60c on the off chance that they havent already chsen the movie themseves?

Because there are enough suckers out there happy to pay the premium rate - They'd be fools to charge less!

    Oh, I think not.

ITV manages to have long adverts, the odd break for the news and gives you a recut movie with offensive bits redubbed for children where it feels like it at that. At worst, RTE gives you only two of these three.

There was no way there was an 11min adbreak on tv3. TV3 are only allowed show a max of 11 minutes of adverts in each hour, by BCI regulations. Anything over that there isa charge from the BCI and if it was continous they would lose their license. This is closely monitored by a company in dublin city for the BCI.

No There is a max of 11 mins per hour. Now if they decided to have an 11 min ad break, that would be possible, but thye could not have any other breaks in that said hour.

RTE have done this with movies before on RTE TWO and TG4 have done it with shows "Do Rougha" (sp?), but as far as I know the TG4 numbers wheren't premium numbers.

It is away of getting money. After all they did promise an interactive show.

Can Digital Viewers press the red button

    TV3 aren't on the air for 24hrs.

well guess what there was an 11 minute break on TV3. live with it. it wasnt filled with actual commercials as we also had several promos and some Popcorn thing which resulted in 11 minutes

Wasnt an 11min ad break then was it, Ent fillers & popcorn dont count as on air advert time. Advert time is for actual paid PRODUCT ADVERTS, So live with it:)

so an 11 minute break is acceptable as long as it includes many promos and popcorn?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 655 ✭✭✭minotour

I agree, total rubbish, why would anyone spend their money on this?? I have a work phone and i still would not participate in it, 3 fairly average movies too!!

...........and then there the Sky active news Poll???? Are people actually that stupid!!!

No its not, but by BCI regulations TV3 can broadcast 11min of Product Advert Breaks throughout a broadcast hour in any way they wish. If they want to put them all out in one 11min ad break they can, but it is very rare for them to do that, only in exceptions like a chams league match day, or live broadcast. Hope this clears it up for you

Popcorn is a TV program (but we could argue that).

Promos are not part of the 11mins but part of programming. Just in the same way the BBC don't show adds.

At least RTÉ's promos are not part of advertising.
