Dell sales position, anyone any comments?

    Hello, i've just got called for an interview for a "Business Sales Executive" role with Dell in Cherrywood - I'm just curious to see if anybody has any feedback from working with dell? Are the targets easily achievable - and where the hell is cherrywood anyway? Would I have to live far from the city? Apprecite any feedback, kind regards, John

    Cherrywood is just off the N11 at Loughlinstown.

    45, 46C, 84 and 145 Buses go by it.

    People generally fit into one of two categories in sales in Dell, they either love it and stay for life or hate it and leave within a year.

    A mate of mine works for Corporate Sales, dunno if it's the same kind of position as "Business Sales Exec", it's basically selling systems to business customers, mostly in the UK for him anyway. Targets are tough, definitely worth it financially if you can get a big sale or meet them consistantly. Down side is the ultra competitiveness of the teams, plenty of backstabbing, and the fact that you get pep talks and motivation pitches constantly to push for higher sales. It's not for everyone from what he tells me and most people don't stay for longer than 3-4 years.

    I work in the tech end of Dell but have a few friends in sales.

    Do not take the job if you are looking for something easy. It is very high pressure. Dell is, first and formost a sales company. As a result they expect a huge amount form the sales teams. But then the rewards are huge as well.

    What I would say is, if you like sales, are good at it and don't mind pressure you should go for it. Dell is a pretty good company to work for, the benefits are really good. If you do not like sales or are not good at it don't bother. You will have a really bad time.

    When I said people don't stay in the job for more than 3/4 years I meant that (according to my mate) people leave because they can't handle the pressure of reaching the sales targets. Even thought the money and benefits are pretty good, they don't find the job enjoyable.

    Not that they move on along their career path after 3/4 years and away from Dell as a natural progression.

    to be fair, if people dont reach their sales targets, they leave pretty fast. and they are generally asked to leave.

    im in sales, and if you dont hit your figures, you will always be fair game for a sacking.

    if you leave a job after 3-4 years, its because you want to move on in life, or you are just very very stupid to have stayed in a job you dont like for far too long :)
