Fiat Punto Clicking

Ive noticed my wipers when on slow on my punto are starting to make a clicking noise. The noise sounds like its coming from under steering colum rather from the wipers itself. This is only happening when the wipers are on slow setting. I know i need to replace the blades will be doing that this weekend anyhow. I was worried it might be the motor for the wipers burning out. Any ideas?

Sorry but i am not a fan of FIAT.

It sounds like wear and tear maybe. Put them on and listen very carefully to pin out where exactly its coming from and then go from there.

well i doubt this is the ansewer but maybe...
I had a car it seemed the wipers were clicking.
It turned out i had the windscreen demist on usually with the wipers, as you do.
A pen had fallen into the windscreen ducts and was bumping around in therewhen the demist was on.

Lift the blades off the window and see what happens if anything.

Also check for movement in the wiper arms when they are switched off. You could have a worn linkage. There should only be a tiny ammount of free play (if any) if the linkage is sound.

Given you mention the 'slow setting" and "under the steering", I'd suggest it is the timer relay clicking. Get you head in there and verify.

Same thing happened to my sister's Seicento. Turned out the bolt holding the wiper arms on to the motor had ever so slighly loosened causing them to slip every now and then making a clickin noise. Tightening the bolts rectified the problem

Obvious thing would be the wiper relay, which would click audiably when on the intermittent setting. If it is this, this wouldn't be a fault, just an annoyance. Lots of cars would have the same thing.

most likely worn linkage, you will have to replace the whole setup including the motor it all comes as one, it will cost E180 if you install yourself, if you cant inststall it yourself have a guest at the cost :D otherwise if you take out the linkage and the motor, drill the linkage balls put on a washer and a split pin to hold the washer in place jobs oxo :) worked for me anyway ;) or just drive it untill the linkage just pops out someday, it will fix the noise, any of above solutions will fix the noise, the latter eventually :D:D

I can tell you straight off what it is... its the linkage for the wipers.
Mine went a couple of months ago and it was making that same noise for awhile before they went. If you are anyway handy with cars you might be able to fix this without having to buy a new one. I paid €50 for a new one only to have it go again 3 weeks later. All that happens is the arms come loose. if you could go to any farm machinery place and ask for a split pin and get someone to drill a small hole in the pin that links the arm just put the split pin through the holes and your fixed.:)
If you don't know what the linkage is this image will show you. Just click on the link. The linkage is a nut that holds the two parts together and lets them move at the same time. The Linkage is the part that holds the two yellow parts together.

I agree with Lightning its not the motor. The linkage is only a little bolt holding the two arms together. The reason its making the noise could be that there is a little crack forming or that the washer is breaking. Either way you will probably have to get another linkage.
