Out of Control Fan!

Hmmm, well i had my Pc running while i went down to get food. When i came back up it had shut down. wtf i said. Went to restart and it wouldn't. The CPU fan wasn't on. Hmm i thought. Reconnected everything and went to restart again. It started up fine.
Thing is, now my fan is on top speed constantly. (its a thermaltake). It used to adjust itself depending on the work load, as fans do.(oc'd 2500 to 3200). But its on full power constantly now which is mega noisey.

I could connect the controller that came with it, so i could vary its speed but tbh, i'd be afraid of letting it overheat. Any ideas? It seems like a bios problem.i've tried everything i could think of.

Yeah there should be settings in the BIOS to configure this... it'll vairy depending on your motherboard/cmos.
For example, in my cmos setup, I can set the target temperature and the system will adjust the fan RPM to keep the system at or below that temperature.
Or if that doesn't pan out, you can tame the beast manually using a software app like SpeedFan.

Be carefull though... check your temperatures, maybe the heatsink on the cpu has lost full contact and there's a real overheating problem... don't write this off as a config problem right away.

ah, thanks for the reply. THough this thread had died. For the moment i put on manual fan speed. I don't think there is a contact problem as the BIOS shows normal CPU temps. But ill check anyway. I'll also have a mess with the BIOS.
