Non-Fresher registration

I know most of this will go without saying. I also know it's pretty early to be doing it. But I think that it's pretty important that someone says it, I would've liked to have this information myself last year, and there was really nobody to ask without feeling stupid.

Your student card is good until the end of september, as is your computer account. However, as far as I know, after that your account expires if you haven't re-registered. To get your new student card you just go to Astra at the beginning of term and get your new card, turning in your old one. Unless you look dramatically different (thank you orange hair!) you'll be given the same picture as you had the year before. You can also get one of the diary/student planner things at that stage. I don't think you need your bank giro receipt for your fees, as that comes up automatically on the computer, but if you have it bring it with you just in case.

I know most of that sounds like common sense, but I wandered around for a while last year before I decided to ask someone and find out what the story was.

I look totally different in my photo than I do now. Long hair in photo, I looked quite like a stoned Liam Gallagher but now I have short hair and still look stoned but totally different looking.

No it's only good until the end of September. It's the bus ones that are good til december!

Yeah, I'd quite like to change my picture too, it's not too bad on the card cos it's so teeny but when they enlarge it for the exam cards... grr...

All my student cards have been valid till the end of septemeber. You can get a new photo if you want or choose to keep the old one. I look like a tinker in mine.

I'm using the one I had when I did the Return to Learning course 3 years ago!! At my age every little helps... I'm 3 years younger in it!!

Q- Any of you guys actually get a manual letter stating that you are to register online this year? And/Or a letter about Modularisation?

I think it especially important because of UCD horizons (modularistion) pending for UGs. Non-communication is a big issue for me in UCD as a staff member it kills me sometimes how little students are informed.

Then again it is near the begining of August so a letter may be pending.

I'm going into 2nd year and the only communication I've had with UCD by post all summer was a letter from my maths lecturer trying to get me to not drop maths next year.

No, haven't heard a thing, but I check SIS and UCD Connect regularly, just in case I'm missing something I should know. It says there that the registration will start at the beginning of this month. I'm auto-enrolled for third year in Mode 1 - which is a bit of a relief, because now I believe the fact that I didn't fail. But it's poxy that we're left in the dark so much about things. I might just have to see how angry and motivated I can get myself...

Also, could someone please explain what this Modularisation is all about? What do we have to do?

You don't have to worry about modularisation at all this year, unless you're a fresher, so don't.

Log in to SIS. Go to Program Enrolement. Select september/whenever 2005/2006 and select your subjects. If you're repeating, I guess you won't be able to register, I don't know.
