Cable/MMDS unencrypted channels in Cork?

Which channels are available unencrypted in and around the Cork City area from Chorus cable and MMDS?

I can remember when we had MMDS (Analogue) installed in our holiday home many years ago we used have to receive RTE and 2 through terrestrial services whilst we got all subscription channels through MMDS. So obviously the Irish channels were unavailable on MMDS then or at least in that area (County Cork).

What I am wondering is if there are any channels available unencrypted through cable or MMDS systems in Cork nowadays? And, if so, how would one go about receiving the unencryted channels available on the MMDS system? Would it just involve installing a dish with down-convertor for the 2.4Ghz band and some power supply system for it?

All the subscription channels with analogue are now Cryptovision scrambled, although I think you may be able to get sky news in the clear. TV3 is also carried on analogue through the MMDS. Also, did you pay a sub for the sub channels on MMDS? A lot of subscription channels were broadcasted, unscrambled, through deflector systems and many of these are now gone.

Cryptovision is similar to the VideoCrypt system used by Sky (analogue). It uses a ............

While I am not suggesting that anyone try this, ...............

PS: This may no longer be of any use as MMDS systems are starting to go digital.

Ok, lets make this clear, rogue-entity. No discussion, or even the slightest whiff of hacking, or what an encryption system can and cant do is allowed here on ICDG.

As an addendum to the original question...

I used to have Chorus analogue on cable in Cork city. I'm now on Sky and don't use the cable for anything, but I got a letter from Chorus telling me that unused connections were going to be terminated...

I wondered if that was a way of kicking off whoever was accessing the unencrypted channels without paying? and hence force them to rejoin?

So, while I'm curious what's available on my cable, maybe it's a moot question...

    Ix.
