Limited Connectivity and beeping

I have small network setup at home.

The first computer is old is beeps all the time. I removed all the hardware and it keeps on beeping. Any ideas?

Also, the network is like this. NTL BB usb modem connected to host computer, internet works fine, access any site. Ethernet connection to my computer, can't access Hotmail, AIB, photos.com or anything that requires anysort of secure login it seems (not sure though). I can access all other sites. But funny enough one day it was working and the next it wasn't. So I thought maybe the firewall was acting up. So I turned off the firewall on both computers and rebooted and I still can't access the sites. My windows firewall that came with SP2 is turned off so there is no clash.

At first I thought it was just my computer acting up, so I restored it and still the same. I then got a laptop and a wireless router and still the same problem. Any computer that's not the host on the network cannot access the sites mentioned above and possibly more. But one day it was good and the next it wasn't.

What to do? What to do?

which firewall? How exactly did you disable it?
(not advisable but hey..) disable any firewall-related services via services.msc

    beeping:
    how many beeps? what pattern?
re-sit the RAM? Does the unit get particularly warm (hardware monitor)? IS it in a well-ventilated area? fans free from dust/obstructions?

Norton firewall 2003 on the host. I'm sure what's on mine. I disabled it from the options in the firewall settings to start up manually. I'll try services.msc. Do I just run that?

As many beeps as you can count. No pattern. It just keeps going at random. What do you by re-sit the RAM? Unit is well ventilated. Monitor flickers from time to time. Free from dust and all. It freezes at random and loses the connection to the internet and the host computer needs to be rebooted.

If you are using a router, check on the settings page that the MTU size is set to whatever your ISP uses. eg 1492. If this is not set correctly, you will not be able to access any secure sites. Check with your ISP to make sure.

Limited Connectivity is just a warning message from SP2.
    Go to:
    Control Panel
    Network Connections
Right Click (whichever one is showing limited connectivity in the bottom right)
    Left click Properties
Untick box that says 'Notify me when there is limited or no connectivity.

Sorry that's not the problem. I have no access to secure sites. Nothing to do with the strength of the signal.

    But thanks for your input.

    1.
    Start -> Run -> services.msc

    2.
does the monitor flicker when just plugged in + switched on (i.e. Not attached to the PC) ?

're-sit the RAM' = Open PC. Take out RAM. Put RAM back in properly.
    Ever upgraded the RAM?

it's quite likely to be a hardware issue though.
Try a frsh install of Windows?

I thought re-sitting the RAM you meant that. Yeh the RAM was upgraded ages ago. But even when other RAM is inserted it still beeps. So I don't think it's the prob.

I was thinking that motherboard may be faulty. The BIOS gives me the readings for the voltage of everything and it all reads as norm. But when I test the voltages with a phase tester it comes up as being a couple lower than what the BIOS said it was.

Another thing. On the host computer, there is a usb hub with 4 or 5 different USB connections in it. That's plugged in the rear. There's a usb connector at the side. It had a usb to mini usb b plug attached to nothing but in the usb obviously. When I took that out I could sign into MSN Messenger. but I couldn't log onto the MSN site. When I plugged the non active USB cable into the usb slot I wasn't able to sign into MSN Messenger. I tried this a couple of times with the same result. Ever hear of anything like that? It's weird right!

    unplug the pc speaker

Well if unplug the external speakers it makes it hard to hear my tv tuner. But even when I unplug my external speakers the beeping is still coming the internal speaker. So the only resort would to be cut the internal speaker wires but I don't want to go down that road. Just because you can't see or hear a problem doesn't mean it isn't there.
