in work we have this security recorder thingy with a hard drive. we put a new hard drive into it and i took the old one. when i put it into my computer it installs grand. when i go into my computer the drive isnt displayed. when i go into my device manager it is in there under disk drives. when i open up the properties for that and click on volumes and then populate the status heading says "not initilized" on my other hard drive this heading says "online".

so how do i initilize this other hard drive. i tried to format it but i couldnt cos i dont know how to find that drives letter.

its a maxtor hard drive and im using windows xp

    cheers moe

There's probably no valid partition on the drive. Use a program like partition manager to set up an NTFS partition for XP and then you should see it and be able to format it.

    Hi,

should be right click on "my Computer" select manage.
    Go to Disk Management.
Right click on right side on your new drive (where ur new drive is as unallocated, etc.)
and select create new partition, make sure its not your running winXP one.
Create a primary partition and allocate all, select quick format to save time.
    Let me know...

    regards
