I am flying to Heathrow with BMI into terminal 1 and have to get a connecting flight from terminal 4, 2 hours after the bmi flight lands.
Can anyone tell me how to get from terminal 1-4 and how long does it take?
    Thanks

there is an underground rail link, takes about 10-15 mins, but I would say 2 hours is still a bit tight with queues/security etc...

Depends on who your next airlines is. If it's another Star Alliance carrier then you should be thru-checked and have your bags checked all the way too. In that scenario two hours is fine.

If you have to claim your bags and check in again then two hours would be extremely tight and you'd be screwed if there was any kind of delay.

Terminal 4 Underground station is closed until September, so he'd have to get the Tube back to Hatton Cross and a bus to Terminal 4 from there.

They should only check through the baggage if the two flights are part of the same itinery. OP - did you make two seperate bookings of one complete booking?

If it's one the one ticket then what Bluehair said is correct. Follow the signs to the flight connection centre when you get off the bmi plane. However, If you have two seperate bookings and have to collect luggage and exit T1, get to T4 and then check in again for your next flight two hours is very tight.

Try to get your luggage queued through to your final destination (what airline are you flying with out of T4 & where to?). If you're on a through ticket it shouldn't be a problem but you haven't a lot of time to play with....

I checked the LHR website & found this info

Connecting from Terminal 1 UK & Ireland to Terminal 4
Your connection will take approximately 60 minutes, from landing to departure gate. From Terminal 1, head for the Flight Connections Centre. Show your ticket and visit our airline desks before making your way by coach to Terminal 4's departure gate.

    Thanks for the advice
The other flight is BA and we can check-through.

They are both part of the same itenirary.

best we could get is only 2 hours because its the first flight out of dublin we're on and there is only one flight to Kenya.

I hope the bmi flight isnt late :)

Nope, no you can't. You can check your bags through no problem but you can't thru-check.

You'll still have to go to the Flight Connections Centre to get your boarding pass for BA.

    HAAAAHAHAHhahahahahahahahahaaaahahahahaaha!

Sorry, I'm just reminiscing about the time (only a few weeks ago actually) I had to walk it. Good luck with that! ;):D

Ah it's not that bad. Just, um, be aware that the final moving-walkway doesn't work. So whatever you do, don't arrive in a bad mood, having just walked for 40 minutes, with a seriously heavy suitcase whose two crappy wheels are buckling fast, struggling to get it to keep up with you like a bold child that just won't do what it's told......

So, um, yeh... have fun! :)

What have we learned from my little rant?
    • Walking from T1 to T2 is probably not the best method of getting there
    • Don't listen to your Dad when he says his suitcase is top of the range. Coz it isn't. Argh.
