Irish Sky Viewing in the UK

I have done a bit of research into this and I understand that I can use an Irish Sky card in the UK to pick up RTE etc...

I am living in an apartment block with a communal sky dish. I have a sky point at the wall into which I can plug a digibox.

I have spoken to the company over here who installed this and they have told me that If I plug a digibox in I will receive a signal.

How do I go about signing up to SKY and getting a box and card. I have access to an address in Ireland to receive mail etc. I can also use my credit card to run a direct debit.

If I get a digibox in Ireland with an Irish viewing card can I just plug it in?

I have been told the box will need to be initialised? What is this??

I'm not sure that the advice you got was correct.
To the best of my knowledge (which is limited) you need either a seperate LNB or some sort of an LNB multi system for use with Sky Digital.
You cannot simply plug your digibox into the point on the wall and expect to pull in channels unless this is done....... Maybe Tony or someone a bit more knowledgeable can elaborate on this?

It's quite common to have a socket for sky digital in an appartment if thats what it was wired for.
It wouldnt matter whether it was a digibox with an Irish or UK card that you hook into it,you will get the channels that the card allows.

Make sure that the card is married to your box though as RTÉ one and two are only viewable with the card paired to the box.
If it's not you will only have TV3 and TG4.

I'd say they sorted something out over the last 14 years.

So many rules broken by Padraic1’s post.

We don’t drag up old threads, discuss circumventing regional restrictions, or discuss buying or selling of Sky viewing cards

Padraic1 take a straight 48 hour ban, just because of the amount of rules broken at once
