I'm interested to see how others would play this hand. I'm not happy with how I played it.

    180k chips in play
8 players remain, 5 get paid.
    I have 14k
    blinds 1500 - 3000

You are on SB and hold Js10c. Folded around to you. BB is a solid player and has about 30k. I called the BB.... With a short stack I should either push or fold.. Anyway,

He makes it 6k in total (another 3k to go)

    I called...

    Flop is Ks4s3s..

    Now what do you do?

So you have 8k left, 12k in the middle, BB has 24k left. Definitely a push here. If you check the BB will/should autobet and you pretty much have to call imo.
At least if you push now you have a tiny tiny bit of folding equity. A push preflop would have been better.

What are the other stacks at the table? is there a case for folding preflop or check-folding the flop? You've just payed the SB and BB so a player or two might get knocked out before you have to post again letting you move up the money.

there was one other shortstack on 6k, but only 5 get paid...

You definitely have to push here Niall, but you should have done so preflop or folded. What happened anyway?

    hey david,

I thought about it for about a minute and then pushed all in. he thought for a while and called with Ah4d. I am a slight favourite against this hand, (52/48) but i did not improve...

I am annoyed how i managed to get into this situation.. I think I should have folded pre-flop and waited for a better time to gamble...

I think it was an autopush preflop, as it stands you paid about 10% of your stack to play a hand out of position.

If the BB is as solid as you say, an all in bet preflop from you forces him to have a big hand and in the worst case lets you see all 5 cards without a positional disadvantage through the hand.

But then again I just like saying 'all in'.

I think the push or the fold preflop would have been solid enough plays but the limp was always asking for trouble, but I am a bit of a bugger for trying to limp in the small blind myself so I know the feeling.
