Just ordered the Buffy box set myself for a grand total of GBP£6.99 inc P&P.

They have to honour the sale at that price as is stated in the Sale of Goods and Services Act. The price was displayed on numerous occassions throughout the transaction. It said that the price was reduced. Not our fault.

Don't know if anyone remembers this but the same happened to Dell a couple of years ago where a good portion of their stock was advertised on their site for I think €100 per computer regardless of spec. It could have actually been less. They were forced to honour the sales by the courts. They lost thousands due to word spreading like wild fire over internet boards and forums through out the country.

Oh, and if they do pick up on the fact that is more than likely a mispricing they will have to write to you to let you know of the error, in which case you can point them to the Sales of Goods and Services Act as I already mentioned stating that they have to honour the price quoted on the site and on the confirmation email. If they do dispute it you do have the right to cancel the order as they cannot process it if they believe the price to be incorrect without your authorization first.

the site seems to be down atm, probably readjusting the prices.. is this the case for everybody else?

Site is down for me. Looks like the copped on. Best of luck to all who ordered :D

Looks like the website has gone down, I was trying to order a Clint Eastwood box set for £5.99 :(
maybe someone copped on and pulled the plug on the site to buy some time to rectify the prices?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 902 ✭✭✭thesteve

Ya I can't get into it either... who reckons we should use this thread for more misprices we find (editing the title of course), just as the freebies thread is flourishing....?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,074 ✭✭✭skibum

It's back up !! Prices don't seem to be corrected :D

Actually SofG allows the retailer some return on things like this if it is clearly a miss price such as the 160 down to less than 10 then they are in their rights to cancel the orders, as this site
Bensons World, Unit 9, Iron Bridge Close, Great Central Way, London, NW10 0UF

Falls into the UK Sale of goods act which allows them to pull the plug on unrealistic deals.

I reckon the 2 series of the sopranos are actually the VHS versions...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 902 ✭✭✭thesteve

From the titles on the site:

Sopranos, The - Series 1 (Box Set) (DVD)
Sopranos, The - Series 2 - (Box Set) (Wide Screen) (DVD)

    so somehow I doubt it...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 900 ✭✭✭cosgrove80

Went for Sopranos 1+2 and Buffy.

Feel guilty for some reason. No idea why.

If I get the stuff for that price I might sell Buffy and give the money to charity or something

Then why is it that Dell got done for it when they got hacked and their price plan changed dramatically? They still had to honour the online deals that people had made during the period they had been hacked.

    Dell.ie = Irish site = Irish Law

I hope you get them lads (and lassies?) but I'd say you'll be unlucky.
Usual excuse "sorry sold out and we can't get any more but if you wait 2 weeks you can have a different (same) version for the correct price instead"

Actually no they don't. They can come back and say the price was wrong before the order ships and ask if you still wish to purchase for the correct pricel. Its up to you to take or not.

If you got it for that price when it ships though they can't bill you for the mistake.

If you had kept your mouth shut your chances of getting it cheap would of been pretty good.

Looks like they've finally spotted the mistake.

It lists all those titles as "This Item Not Available"

although this could just be an automatic system that has kicked in as they've run out of stock.

Exactly, the irish version of SofG doesnt cover mistakes the UK version does. Because retailers got pissy.

    From http://www.oasis.gov.ie/consumer_affairs/pricing/pricing_of_goods_and_services.html

"If a retailer makes a mistake and the actual price for the item is more than that displayed the retailers have certain rights. They do not automatically have to sell you the goods at the price stated. It is the retailer's responsibility to correct the mistake as soon as possible. If the retailer knowingly charges more for a product than is displayed an offence may be committed. Generally, if you are told the correct price before you pay, you have no right to redress. If you notice the error after you have paid, you should bring the matter to the retailer's attention who, most likely, would refund you the difference. You could also report the matter to the Office of the Director of Consumer Affairs. The office will investigate the complaint with the objective of ensuring future compliance with the Act. This however does not mean financial redress for the individual complainant. "

    Just got this email
Unfortunately, we are unable to supply the below - we had a temporary
issue where deleted items became available to purchase.

Sopranos, The - Series 1 (Box Set) (DVD)
Sopranos, The - Series 2 - (Box Set) (Wide Screen) (DVD)
Buffy The Vampire Slayer - Season 1 To 7 (Collector`s Edition Box Set)
    (Thirty Nine Discs) (DVD)

Please note that any other items are unaffected by this.

We only charge credit & debit cards on despatch, so your card has not been
    charged for the above.

Please accept my sincerest apologies for any disappointment caused - we do
    appreciate how frustrating this is.

Just got one of those emails too... oh well.. it was worth a try.

Notice how they are not metioning the pricing error, they're just saying they don't actually have the items in stock.

Sorry mate but the Irish rules dont stand in the UK, only common european law and UK law applies. So this site is well within its rights to pull the plug.

Dont like the bull about the "items unavailable" as they where available at full whack a few days ago I was looking at them.
