I just bought a JVC DMR 20 DVD Recorder from Germany - I was under the impression that it would work in Ireland but when I tune it in I only get picture but no sound - am I goosed?

I would have thought you just have it connected wrong, how did you hook it up?
I think there are scart cables flying around that don't have the audio connected, if this is what you are using either get a fully connected one or get a seperate cable for passing the audio out to your audio in on TV, but you may get a slight lag sound to video if you do it this way..

I have connected it up with same connections as my VCR - scart to TV and aerial to DVD recorder

    hi joc5,

have you tried using phono + composite leads at all..if u could post a pic of the rear of the dvd recorder it would help to diagnose...

    phono --red and black...
    compositem -- yellow...

is there a specific menu system from the dvd recorder displayed onto the tv...for sound?

hope this is of help to you!
    niall..

    In a word . . YES !

    Is this your device ?

Germany uses a different sound IF frequency of 5.5 MHz compared to ours 6.0MHz. It can be changed but the cost would be too prohibitive. Flog it on Ebay.de and cut your losses is my advice.
