hi all i didn't think thsi post belonged here so if you wanna give out to me meh.. i ryed posting it in the engineering forum but noone really helped so i thought i'd post it here at home where all you tech head pedal people could help me :-) i recently bought a mini strobe ligght about the size of two packets of cigarettes lay down beside each other... its small but it fills a small room... perfect for small gigs that my band do but the only way to turn it on and off is by plugging it in and out which is very hard to do during playing especially when a fast part of a song is coming up... there is also i speed knob on the back which you have to be near to turn up and down which is also virtually impossible so anyway i need to fix both those things and i ask for the help of all those out there who might be able to :-) anyway here is a dodgy diagram of the strobe light as it is... sorry about not using proper symbols and stuff but i dont know them.. anyway:
    diagram.jpg

ok so you can see the strobe light so i was thinking.. put a footswitch along the mains line that is stompable like a guitar effect pedal... that seems easy enough to do i just have to find a switchwhich im finding hard to do...

anyway for the speed knob i was thinking of lengthening the three mwires going to the knob and join them up to a wah wah like pedal for guitar that i could move up and down hence turning the knob and hence making the knob turn... this is a diagram of what i think it might look like:
    diagram2.jpg

so anyway those are just my ideas but if anyone else has any better ideas by all means tell me.. and also help finding a footswitch for the mains would be greatly appreciated too

    Thanks :D

If I remember right peats used to (and possibly still do, last time I saw them was around 4 yrs ago in their old shop) sell a simple DIY overdrive pedal that should have all the parts for this for around 15-20 squids bar the external casing, but if you are proficient enough to make the switch a case shouldnt be too hard for you to make :D

Sounds like you have the right idea but be very careful. Strobe lights use very high voltages afaik. Personally, I'd get a couple of drum triggers and connect them to the light so that whenever the bass drum is hit, the light goes off.

Maybe something like that? I'm not overly sure on how they work. You could probably do it some other way.

whoa fu(kin pricey considering the light only cost me 20 quid i'd say id have to invest in a better light with a built in trigger which is too blah to do so i think i'll just hook up a switch and fuk the speed thing cost who the fuk wants a slow strobe light eh??? :D

Just wire it into a normal light switch box and lie it on the stage like a foot switch, simple!just dont kick it too hard!!!

Go into Woodies or Atlantic or any hardware shop like that and go looking. You'll find loads of switches.
