    Hi,

My Dell X300 screen has become quite loose and I know its only a matter of time before it wont be able to stand up by itself! Any ideas on how I might fix this? Ive taken a quick look at it and I dont think its going to be straight forward.

Thanks for any suggestions you may have..

You can see the hinges if you pry off (gently!!!) their plastic covers - i.e the plastic that surrounds the power button. The covers are held on by clips that snap out. Be careful not to damage the plastic in the process though.

If the computer is within warantee their is a simpler solution....

I guess you didn't have a look in the service manual that came with the machine?

    Never mind, this might help:

As maidhc said, if it's still in warranty, get a service chappie to call out and retighten the screws for you. They really shouldn't have been getting loose in the first place so if they're in any way reasonable they'll do something for you if the warranty still lives.

maidhc & sceptre thanks for the replies.

Well I was on to dell today and I have a 3 year next day on site business warranty but Dell are washing their hands of this problem and are passing it off as normal ware and tare. Bollocks, I have never dropped or mishandled this laptop and if gently opening and closing the lid is supposed to make it go loose (its less than a year old) then i guess im guilty of that. I have bought up to 25 machines from them over the last couple of years and this is the first time I have ever requested support. Very very bad form.

Ill be looking for another supplier, Christ I dont even know where to start!

Dont take that nonsense from them. Seriously you have a fault there, I have an x300, and the screen is no way loose.

Was it an Irish rep you had? I'd suggest you try getting in contact with the Irish /UK support (Pressing Inspiron support might do the trick?) - they seem to understand English and dont read stuff off computer screens as much.

Failing that go to the small claims court. €9 and it will pay for a District Court hearing if it goes it it. All you need to do is fill out a simple form.
