iTunes Problem

I am trying to move my music from my powerbook to my PC (more storage space and don't want to clog up the HD on the powerbook).

I have copied all the .mp3 files from the mac to DVDs. I am now trying to import them into iTunes on the PC (iTunes 4.9). However I can not seem to do it right no matter what I do.

I have tried dragging each music folder to the library and copying the entire dvd to the iTunes folder, the tracks appear in the library (no track info as the .mp3 files didn't have names) and when I either try to play a track or 'get track names' from the web it just tells me that the 'track couldn't be played as the original file could not be located' and that 'no information for this track could be found'

Please help ..as I have already wiped my iPod and I am music less and I cannot face re-ripping all my CDs !!!

Start iTunes and go into the advanced options and make sure the 'copy songs when adding to library' option is on - 'keep itunes music folder organised' is also good.

Then choose 'add to library...' from the file menu and navigate to the DVD and it should copy all the MP3s into the iTunes library and allow them to be played.

If you're copying MP3s from the Mac they should all have correct names and should have all the tags for track number, genre, album, artist etc. inside them.

One way is to make a new folder for the music on the PC your moving the music to, then move the DVD on your desktop or harddrive folder into the new music folder, then move it into iTunes and the music will load into iTunes ready for playback; this would be a universal way to move the library seamlessly without having to change iTunes settings as you don't say if it is a Power PC or a Windows unit, (Spit :()

    cheers for the replys.

It is actually a Windows box that I am looking to put the music on to as I don't want to overload my powerbook.

    I have tried:

    - copying the music from the DVD to a new folder on the desktop and then adding to both the 'library' and in to the iTunes music folder.

    - Using the import function direct from the DVD

Neither seem to import them correctly as they won't allow me to get the track names. The artist name is there alright, that seems to have copied across but no other information.

I really don't want to have input these details manually !!!

I don't ever remember having these problems on the mac mind you !!

Think you may have to imput manually then, sorry to say. Try make artist folders on one or two artists, see will it make a difference on a small scale.
