CPU Problem

I noticed that my CPU ,an Athlon XP2100 was getting hot lately,up to 75-80 degrees so I planned on buying some thermal paste and reseating the heatsink.
I dont overclock it and I had overheating shutdown software in place.
Went to turn on the PC yesterday morning and it wouldnt boot,no bios setup either.
It beeped then said,'System failed CPU test'.
    Just a black screen then.
I think it may be blown.
I have verified that the RAm and Graphics card are ok ,and I stripped the PC down but I still have the same error.
Is there any point in reseating the CPU with new paste or is it a gonner ?
I have a 3 year warranty on it,which is due up Aug 13.
Should I send it off for repair or will AMD just laugh at me ?

I'd send it off. 3 years is 3 years tbh. I'd try reseating it first though. Cant do any harm, and will save you hassle. I'd also check the costs of 2nd hand 2100's on ebay first. Might not be worth your while paying postage etc.

I would imagine Komplett, but maybe not since it's past 12 months - ask over on the Komplett board and they'll confirm for sure.

Just reading the warranty and it says
'Contact your computer system manufacturer or distributor during the systems warranty period'
'After your computer system warranty has expired you should contact AMD'
I bought the components from Komplett so I guess they are the distributor ?

    You have a choice

    a) Komplett, or
    b) AMD

Sale of Goods and Supply of Services Act 1980 Section 17 & 19. Komplett must honour it if you choose them, and cannot tell you to deal with AMD.

Komplett will issue me an RMA allright.
Who would I stand a better chance of getting a replacement from I wonder ?

Take a look at this thread before rmaing it to komplett, i think some of the stuff in it may be applicable to you (out of stock/production product almost out of guarantee)

    Hmm...worrying stuff Savemejebus
I guess I wont get much off Komplett so.
I suppose I'll have to send it to AMD,but their online RMA service seems to be screwed.
