The Practicalities

    Hello...

I have been considering taking up archery for months and months now, and I guess I’m almost finally in a position to do something about it, but there’s one limiting factor.

How small the kit packs down.

If I can recall correctly I was interested in getting my hands on a recurve bow, for a spot of target archery.

I commute by motorcycle, if I can help it I won’t buzz round and steal the mothers car, can’t drive the thing anyway, I think bikes are safer… but I’m nuts. But the story is I’m wondering will I be able to go some where shoot, then pack down my bow and other bits and pieces into a case that’s small enough, tough enough and weather proof enough to be able to be strapped onto the back of my bike or thrown in the box on the back.

How do you guys carry your kit around? Is it in really obvious ‘bow and arrows’ inside cases or will all the kit fit into a regular small gym bag? And then do you have to be especially gentle with your kit once it’s securely packed away?

I've looked at a few cases on Bowsports but a lot seem too soft or too tough with limited strapping to the bike ability.

    Regards,
    Dave

as long as you get a fairly strong water proof sports bag, i'd say the bow should break down into it. you have limb protector to put on the limbs and as far as i know theres various cover types for other parts of the bow. the sight usually has a box it comes in and you could wrap stbalisers in cloth or something. a hard case mightn't be the best idea on a bike, i can see the wind taking it off someday as your flying along! :o

    Hi,
A rucksack will do fine. Just get a tube for the arrows.
You could be like DIT's own MADRAB and cover the limbs with a tie.
MADRAB and Keith Hanlon travel to training and competitions with rucksacks and motor bikes.

You can go to www.quicks.com and look up the Quicks Bow Covers Set (item # ZZ17). (The link to the page won't work!)

With your limbs and handle in these bags and arrows in a tie or tube everything sould be grand in a backpack.

Cool, Thanks for the replies. I don't like wearing a backpack on the bike but one could easily be strapped to the back or put in the luggage (I'll need to buy some a little bigger).

Then I can ride around like Attila. =]
