Card slots on Inspiron 5000 have disappeared

    ... not physically, of course, but as far as Device Manager is concerned they are simply not there anymore. We're talking about a 5 year old lappie that has served me well, so if it's beginning to break down, I suppose I can understand, but is there anything that I could try to get them back? I've already tried resetting the BIOS to Factory Defaults, with no luck.

    What about wiping it, and restoring the original OS (98SE) from the Dell CD-ROM?
