Finally getting around to getting broadband installed in the new house, anyone any tips on who to go through seeing as there are a few different providers these days?

I'm actually getting the lot installed, phone line aswell, as I've only recently moved in so suggestions on call providers are appreciated also. I see Eircom have a 40euro talktime deal, call any landline in Ireland for free which includes line rental. Seems ok to me

    Thanks
    Shay

try smart... if its available its €35 a month for phone line rental + broadband... doubt anything will beat that.

Imagine just started doing broadband recently... I think its 20 a month, half the price of Eircom and BT. Completely seperate from the phone company. check out www.imagine.ie

In my experience and that of my mother, Smart are an awful company. I started off with them but when I was constantly getting over charged and finding it very hard to get any satisfaction off them I changed over to UTV (30 a month) and they have been excellent since day one.

I'd be wary of any talktime deal, you have to make sure that you are going to be spending at least 25-30 a month on landline calls which is a lot as they are quite cheap at the minute.

The eircom talktime deal is for 40 a month, which includes landline rental(25) so thats only 15 a month on landlines.....

I still say it may not be worth it though... as many people don't even use landlines any more.... but if many of your friends and family have a landline, it is a pretty good deal (for eircom that is ;) )

If you still can I would advise you to cancel Eircom right away and get a wireless providor. Then get a VOIP connection for your incoming/outgoing voice calls. The packages out there now are unreal in value (no I don't work for any!) and most provide you with the same eircom phone number. You can get Broadband and VOIP combined for around €50 pm which includes unlimited phone calls in Ireland and most countries in europe. I am in the process of getting rid of my land line for this solution.
Instead of promoting a specific site, let me know if you want some links to them and I will PM you.

OK there seems to be an unreal amount of interest in this. (my inbox got hammered with people looking for these links :D )
I was going to post a lot of links and then advise the best when I remembered that there is a VOIP section on Boards.ie already :) . So, here it is

I reckon the blueface service is by far the best, ports your exsisting number to their service and gives you unlimited calls for a low enough cost.

Despite my initial misgivings, UTV have improved a lot. 3 month free trial followed by €30 per month and free calls to all Ireland & UK landlines on evenings and all through the weekend.
