Remove Grub

    Hey all,

    Trying to remove a dual boot installation of Fedora Core 3 on a Xp Pc. Now I know to remove GRUB first and then repartion the linux partitions in windows. Googling leads to the answer of booting with XP cd, going into Recovery Console and then typing "fixmbr". But that doesn't work! on restarting GRUB is still there. "fixboot" followed by "fixmbr" didn't work either.

    Anyone got any ideas? BTW I don't have a floppy drive or a copy of Win98 b4 someone suggests a fdisk /mbr from a win98 startup disk.

    Have you by any chance got a usb memory stick?
    You could boot off that if you stick the basic dos bootdisk on it.
    There are all sorts of bootable image files out there.
    Using a CD-R is another option.

    It's weird that fixboot/fixmbr doesn't work for you... it works a treat any time I'm removing LILO.

    yeah, after a bit of a search i found an .iso of a win98 boot disk. Booted using that and did fdisk /mbr. Grub gone and now so are the linux partitions. :D
