If you haven't heard, the draw is:

    Cavan vs. Mayo
    Monaghan vs. Tyrone
    Derry vs. Laois
    Sligo vs. Cork

The Cavan vs. Mayo and Sligo vs. Cork games are next weekend. The other games are the following weekend. So, what do people think?

I fancy Cork and Derry to win their ties. Tyrone vs. Monaghan is hard to call. Monaghan are on a high after their few wins while Tyrone will have to lift themselves after the heartache of yesterday.

I think Cavan drawing Mayo is a good omen and I expect them to win. They won't be favourites but I have my own reasons for believing they will. Basically, a week ago, at the Meath match, I was talking to a girl from Mayo. I said Cavan had retired McEniff, retired Boylan (although that may not be true yet) and that Maughan would be next on our list.

So I'm basing my decision on that!

They should do them as double headers:
Sligo v Cork and Mayo v Cavan in Hyde Park, and Monaghan v Tyrone and Derry v Laois in Clones.

Any one know Which matches in round 4 will be on TV?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭Flukey

All of them would be. They will be on over different weekends. They may be all in Croke Park.

I knew we'd get Tyrone, I just knew it. Before the draw I was saying I hope Tyrone appeal the sending off of Canavan and Stephen O'Neill, now I hope to God they don't!! Tyrone are dangerous when they're angry although Monaghan like being the underdogs

I think Tyrone will win that one alright.

I'm fancying most of the underdogs in this round...I think Cavan's havin a stormer off a year and are getting better game by game. Its great for the county too...real buzz about, especially if they win this next one!

Monaghan might take tyrone...and i think Sligo will win theirs too, can't pick the Derry one though.

ok so yourself and lemlin have made it clear that ye believe ulster style football is superior to the other styles but really listen to yourself here. Why on earth should Laois V Derry be in clones??

It should be in croker. Its a better stadium more convienient collectivly for both teams with neither having any particular advantage

I'd be surprised if they put Derry in clones. Derry county board fight continuously cause they don't want to be put there and most of the time they win. They'd much rather play in casement or croke pk

Kaptain Redeye, I never said a word about putting Laois in Clones. The only reason I could imagine it being there is because the GAA are trying to keep the townsfolk happy after moving the Ulster final to Croker.

I don't think the GAA will do double headers. If they did, they'd have to be in Croker. I reckon you could see the matches littered round the country. For example, Cavan vs. Mayo could be in Dr Hyde Park and Sligo vs. Cork could be put in Limerick or Thurles or somewhere in between.

Alot of people expect the games to be in Croker but Croker is usually saved for the quarter finals.

I think the matches have to be in neutral venues so I'm not sure what the setup would be with Monaghan playing in Clones. They could move it to Casement.

They'll all be double headers in Croker I'd say. Also Flukey, Monaghan can't play their game in Clones. It will either be in Breffni or Casement if it isn't in Croker.

I'd love if they were but I remember these matches last year getting very little coverage. I remember Donegal limped out to Fermanagh in some small stadium down the country. The same with Limerick who fell to Derry I think it was.

I can't see why they'd put them in Croker this year.

I don't think they will be in Croker either. As for the games themselves, I think Cork will comfortably beat Sligo, and Tyrone will beat Monaghon. The Laois Derry game is a tough one to call, and it could go either way. I think Mayo will just about have enough to take out Cavan, but again it will be close.

True enough... I'm hoping for anywhere but Hyde Park though!

clones is 2hrs from portlaoise, and just under 2hrs from derry.

so unless they put in in a double header in croker that seems about half way.
But a lot of laois fans probable won't be able to get to clones.

I hope these games are not in Croke Park.
Cork are well know for small crowds in games prior to Semi finals and I don't think a trip to Dublin to see them play Sligo will pack the roads out of Cork.
Play it in Galway or Limerick and play the Cavan Mayo game in Roscommon.

It's hard to see CP being full or near full for these games on a Bank Holiday Saturday.
But I bet CP will be the selected venue

laois/derry tyrone/monaghan would be a good double header i think for croker

I'm a Derry man myself and I'm confident we'll beat Laois.

Personally I'd love if we got Tyrone, but alas no.

Cavan I think will beat Mayo.
Monaghan (hopefully) to sneak it against Tyrone.
    Cork to beat Sligo.

I was thinking this myself but traffic would be a nightmare because the majority of Derry and Tyrone supporters use the Monaghan road to Dublin. So if you have 3 sets of supporters all using the same road.... :(

After the first Armagh/Tyrone match i was travelling towards Dublin whilst the supporters from the game were coming the opposite direction, there was about a 4 mile tail-back going into Castleblaney!

Dont know if the GAA take these things into consideration though.

I agree with KingEric on his last point about the traffic going home, remember the first armagh vs tyrone game was delayed for about 20 mins because of traffic and BBC were saying that some fans said that it took 6/7 hours to get home after the drawn game, which they say was a big reason for the smaller turnout on Saturday.

Forgetting about traffic problems, the laois/derry tyrone/monaghan would be the best combination for a double header as I think these teams will attract the most amount of fans. I wouldn't be a tall surprised if all the games were in Croke Park, becasue they have done this for the last few years now.

    Cavan vs Mayo
    Sligo vs Cork
    Monaghan vs Tyrone
    Derry vs Laois

Although I'm not ruling anything out, this is probably going to be the end of the road for Sligo. :-/
Cavan have responded very well to their defeat by Tyrone and look good to turn over Mayo.
If Tyrone can pick themselves up from Saturdays loss, they should be good enough to beat their northern neighbours.
Laois, although not all that great outside Leinster, will beat Derry IMO.

I think Cavan vs. Mayo would attract a big crowd. The Cavan bandwagon is well and truly in full flow now and people in the county are beginning to regain their faith in the team.

I'd love to see Cavan in Croker in the Championship for the first time since '97 but I reckon we'll get hit with Dr Hyde Park or Carrick.

As for the traffic, I'd imagine it was bad after the drawn game alright. A mate of mine reckons she had a terrible time getting home to Navan last Saturday, and that was only with the small crowd from the replay.

cavan mayo could never be in carrig, that'd be way to small i'd say

Just after hearing that the Mayo Cavan game is in Hyde Pk next Sat evening at 5.30. Cork v Sligo is in Portlaoise I think. The other 2 qualifiers are in Croker as double header the following weekend

Yeah I think the Cork v Sligo game is on at 4! Crap I was going to go to Croke Park if those games had been put on as a double bill! :(

Well I'm not complaining, it gives me an excuse to stay an extra night in Galway and go straight to the game!

Bloody Hell, their schedule from Mullingar to Portlaoise is archaic to say the least........
