I am sure this will put someones nose out of joint but one of the (in)famous 'pub' qualifiers for this 16 man event has gone on to win it!
Well, he split it heads-up because he just walked into the Fitz and showed me a cheque for €23,000...

'And all that for a tenner!' was his cry!

To be fair he can actually play....

In Fact on further talking to this guy, he tells me that he finished second in the submarine bar 'pub' poker final, to qualify for the grand final.
He tells me that in the grand final he also finished second (though they did a deal for the cash) to the SAME guy !!
So it was 1st AND 2nd for the 'pub' poker guys.....

Who said there was no skill involved and it was a crap shoot....? That would be the WSOP you were thinking of....

There must have been blood all over the studio walls. Most of the players I know who made it to this final sixteen are all loose aggresive... Should be fun to watch when it comes on the TV.

    Congrats to your man anyway.

he was a dreadful player who got very lucky. i watched most of it. he made some terrible calls and almost pi$$ed his chiplead away.

second place was a Fitz regular, Christy, who just so happened to qualify through a pub tourney, far better player and deserved to win it.

...but fair play to him :)

A full report of this event can be found on Antes Up. The pictures are missing at the moment as there were some *technical* problems as I was posting it. Once I am back home this evening it will be *fixed*. Tom is also updating the Cork event in the news section, although the updates are a bit sporadic due to the lack of a proper internet connection.

tight players don't win tournaments. It's as simple as that.
