hey... i need to power my effects and being fed up of having 5 adaptors i wanna buy somthin a little simpler... now ive run in to a hole confusion... ive come across two options... theres a power bank which is here and theres a normal daisy chain... i dont understand how daisy chains work... if theres only 9vs goin into the first connector then hat means if i have 5 pedals connected they're all only getting 1.8v... so there must be some logic im missing... and also if the daisy chain works fine then why the hell would anyone buy the power bank???

    thanks

There's two ways to wire something like a daisy chain - in Parallel or in Series. If the daisy chain was wired in Series, then each pedal would only get a small voltage. But in Parallel, everything gets the same voltage. The drawback to this is you have to get a high wattage powersupply if your pedals are power hungry. Most are only about 300mW but a Digitech Whammy uses about 1.3A I believe

The good thing about that power bank is the power will be conditioned and cleaned before it's fed into the pedals, which will cut down on excess noise.

well will this one be sufficient to power 5 boss 9v effects... this?

    Bad link.

    just fixed it sorry

Well, you'll need to add a power adapter at the end of that with the correct voltage/current ratings and make sure that the plugs are the right size for the Boss pedals but otherwise, it should be fine.

i have a standard boss power supply 9v that was designed for one pedal will this work?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Look at the back of it. It should say something like "9V 1A" or something. Find out what number is beside the A.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,552 ✭✭✭Steoob

    ____
the only 2 A's on the back are: MODEL: PSA-240 and OUTPUT: 9v- - -200mA

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

OK, 200mA is what we're looking for. If you look at the back of your boss pedals, they'll have a badge saying something similar. Add up all the numbers besides the mA. If they're more than the power supply can provide they'll either not work or else they'll damage the power supply cos it can't provide enough current.

You should be ok with 5 Boss pedals on one adapter. Even the most power hungry boss pedals take only about a quarter of what your Power adapter can supply.

    What pedals do you have?

i was just using the boss thing as a hypothetical situation i really have a BOSS DS-1, a Big Muff whcih ive customised to have power connector, Digitech XBS bass compressor, Dunlop bass wah and i'll prob be gettin either a boss EQ or a Ibanez bass synth wah

I have the same daisy chain, i've only powered 2 boss pedals with it, it obviously worked but i doubt you'd have problems with 5.

It won't power your dunlop wah though, at least it doesn't power mine, which is a bit of a pain.

ive ive got 5 pedals on one adapter, and ive one conecting toa Tu tuner which powers another 4 pedals, so it shud be ok,

    like so...

i dont see why it wouldn't power the wah i mean why would they sll this thing if it couldn't power 5 standard power effects like its stated

anyway i like the little man in your picture haha how the hell do you power so many effects? is there a daisy chain power out on the tuner???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,291 ✭✭✭-=al=-

yah thats right theres another power output on the TU tuner, so its like having another adapter, But the daisy chain doesnt fit into the Wah power input, thats why it isnt powered but the battery's in wah;s last a decent amount of time without havin to change

maybe the wah is powered differently, but u will get most stompboxes Fine with 1 daisy chain

well 2 friends of mine have the boss bcb-60 pedal board and its powered and basically all it is is that daisy chainwith an included adaptor and it powers a dunlop wah perfectly... the connectors do fit in the sockets i know for a fact...

i'm just telling you man, i use the SAME daisy chain and a boss adapter and it DOESN'T power the wah.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

which wah is it bob...i used to have a daisy chain like that but and it worked on a dunlop wah

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,144 ✭✭✭LundiMardi

    dunlop classic wah

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

yeah i had that workin before..try the wah straight off the tuner and see if its the wah thats the problem

    i don't have a tuner, i only used 3 pedals, DS-1, OC-2 and Wah.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

sorry i didn't read the thread properly...there is nothing to say it won't power the wah...did u try just the wah on its own without the other 2??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,144 ✭✭✭LundiMardi

erm, i can't remember really. I probably tried the wah just with the boss adaper first. It didn't work and it didn't work with the daisy chain either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

how do u power it then???

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,144 ✭✭✭LundiMardi

battery. How else? I don't use my pedals much anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

its very early bob sorry...maybe the power input connection is fecked or sometin...oh yeah thats right your one of dem guys who can actually play guitar instead of just makin mad sounds with a million effects pedals :p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,144 ✭✭✭LundiMardi

yeah, ya bunch of amateurs, ha ha. Tis a little too early if you ask me, who invented 'am' anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,552 ✭✭✭Steoob

ok i guess i'll just get the power bank then i would actually prefer to spend more money than to have the hassle of having to replace the battery of the wah no matter how rare the occasion is... while im here does anyone know of any wah that is powered by a daisy chain? like a morley? or a snarling dogs?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

they all should be...i've powered a classic dunlop and a vox clyde mccoy...

having a proper power supply is much better because some pedals will have increased gain as the battery begins to waste which messes with your tone

you seem to be the only person whos powered a wah everyone else seems to have problems... hmm

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Did anyone check the power rating of their wah and the power rating of their supply? I've powered a wah from an adapter before...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,552 ✭✭✭Steoob

well ya a wah is powerable from a boss adaptor right? but its being powered on a daisy chain is the problem

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Did you check the adapter to see if it could handle all the pedals? Start with the wah pedal powered by the daisy chain with no other pedals connected to it. Then add them one by one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,552 ✭✭✭Steoob

well i haven't bought the daisy chain yet thats why i posted to see if it was good but i might just pickone up anyway thanks all fopr your help :-)

Yeah, that's only two pedals. Trying to power 4 pedals through a daisy chain using a power supply that isn't up to spec won't help which is what I'm trying to get across.

Feylya I understand what your getting at but I was addressing the fact that everybody is saying they have had trouble powering a dulop wah with a boss adapter.
