I'm in for planning permission at the moment for a new house. So I'm starting to think about some sort of home network for pc's and music etc... I haven't got my head around the whole Windows Media Center thing yet, but as I'm an electrician by trade so I would like to wire for it. Any advice for what cabling is required would be great. I'd like to cover all possibilities for most rooms in the future. I would appreciate any help forthcoming.

CAT 5/6 UTP back to a cheap patch panel for a start, but nowdays wireless ethernet is getting fast and cheap so maybe it isn't a priority.

    Satelite or cable coax runs.

    Speaker cabling.

Hi,one lad i know has a setup something like this......maybe put 4 runs of cable to back of your tv etc,so you can plug in x-box etc then maybe two runs to each other room all back to a patch panel somewhere handy-ish,run the phone line in up to it as well so you can patch phone thru to anywhere you want, cable will give you gigabit speed,be a while b4 wireless catches up with that...also komplett have small touch screens cheap,it may be nice to put one in the kitchen etc and tie it to a small pc,use it for controlling stuff, music etc over the network

What about speaker cable in each room so you can pick different music in different rooms? Wher would you wire them to?
