I've noticed that there is a Corolla K30 for sale in this Friday's Buy & Sell - the first that I have seen for sale in recent years !

It's a 1980 model and is advertised as 'fully restored'
    Price circa €2,500.

See www.buyandsell.ie (Search Engine) for details.

    Silvera.

Yep, I noticed this too. It may be that this is the same car that was for sale at a recent classic car show (I think Jason_G_KE30 mentioned it and posted a pic of it)

If this is the case, could you post a pic of it here again please Jason_G_KE30 ?

Spotted two K30's at Fingal Vintage Show today - a coupe(!) and saloon.
They were parked alongside a 1978 Starlet and 1974 KE20.

I was going to take a few pics of them, but when I returned from watching the tractor pulling comp (www.tractorpulling.net) they were gone :(

    Damn elusive K30's ! :D

I spotted that ad myself, Brian D3 and Silvera, seems a bargain at the money! If this is the same car i've photos of it at Mosney last month. It looked better than out of the showroom!! I'm going to give a call this evening to check it out, would like to see it going to a good home. I managed to get a pic of that KE30 "SR" coupe for you Silvera, after that I got distracted by the tractor pulling myself, plus the supposedly 360+BHP Ford FW60. Still coughing up dust :D We might have been standing beside each other!!

Here you go Silvera, one to keep you happy!! :D The red one is a SR model, wonder does it have a higher spec engine, since the wheels etc looked more than the standard? The orange one beside it should be coming up for sale soon also, I have his no if anyone is interested :)

    Cheers Jason_G_KE30 !!!

Ahh, the memories ............ I worked on 'many a K30' in my day !

She looks like she got a good quality respray ........ but I wonder how much filler was used in the process :D

Let us know how you get on re the K30 for sale ......and indeed if/when the Coupe comes up for sale ?

Yeah, that big Ford tractor was something else alright !
Didn't get to see it in action tho.... pulling that is - saw it tilling earlier that day.

Although, my main interest during the show was in the vintage David Brown and Fordsons...........and the harvesting.

Just a quick note, I'm going to take al look at the KE30 tonight when I finish work, will let you know what the verdict is tomorrow. Was preparing my Ferguson for a Vintage show at home on Sunday so apologies for the late reply!! :)

Hi, just a quick note, I took a look at the car last week, and was very impressed, so was talking to him today, and I'm buying it :D. I'm just taking a look around to see what kind of Insurance quotes I can get, was speaking to Carole Nash, AXA, Gogans, First Ireland. First Ireland came back with a quote of 560 Comp, and i'm waiting for the rest (like pulling teeth...very slowly)Supposedly the lovely KE30 is not recognised by Ins companies as a "classic" I've spoke to his Insurance company, and they're sending me out a proposal form (quote of 237.56 comp). I've also spoken to IVS so I might even get signed up with them. You might see it about in the not too distant future ;)

    Don't worry, BrianD3 and Silvera, the '77 KE30 is still a goer!!

    Nice one!

I hope you get the car - a good one deserves to be with an enthusiast!!
(You never know, if you decide to sell it in a few years I might 'take it off your hands' ;))

€237 fully comp? .....sounds very good.
If you don't mind me asking, What age bracket are you in?

    Re: the '77 KE30.......
    Is it a 2 door ?
If so, imported or original Irish reg?
I never saw a 2 door saloon here before (have seen 2 door estate tho).

.....BTW, is the red saloon pictured above the one you are buying???

Well I never thought Id see the day when the K30 was an object to drool over - but I must admit they do look good.
Are these cars fully restored - as in new panels fitted. That sounds impossible but the cars look brand new - well done to whoever did them. :)

Very good Jason :D As myself and Silvera have discussed many times before the K30 is a real "Irish classic" because they were so popular here. Obviously, a K30 is never going to be worth a huge amount of money but you can be sure it will attract attention and interest. I saw a K20 on the roads a few months back and there were nearly* a few crashes as other drivers took their eyes off the road to gawk at it :)

    *slight exaggeration

Thanks for the good wishes guys, hope it all works out ok...eventually!! :D Yeah, it is the red model above I looked at. It's an Irish assembled model 1980. My own KE30 is a Jap assembled Dublin reg 4 door, that was owned most of its life by my Uncle's family, and he had a fair bit of work done on it before we got it as a replacement for a dreadful 1980 Audi 80  . I always loved how simple the KE30 was to drive, and never gave any problems. It was the first car I learned to drive on.
Unfortunately my age is against me, as I'm only gone 26, I seem to have got the mindset of a 50 year old!! :) I'm probably going to look at putting my Dad down as the owner, and put me as a named driver, because *whisper* I drive a NI reg car Insured up the North, and he can get better NCB discounts, as they might have a problem with my NI Insurance NCB. :D . Will keep ye informed!!

I think I spotted an old Corolla Coupe today about 2 miles west of Enfield on the N4, basically on the corner at the end of the second long straight section of road after the roundabout. Nice grey/green, almost like wedgewood green. Looked to be in fine condition, for the 1 second I saw it, and I believe there was a for sale sticker in the window. Sorry if this has been mentioned already.

Hello all, just got delivery of the KE30 on Saturday, and drove it down home. :D Went grand until I turned off the M50 at Finglas to get some petrol, and it completely died :o  After a minute and some slagging by some not so impressed travellers, I discovered that the earth connector had its bolt wrung. I tightened it down best I could on the battery, and away I went again, no problems!
It seems to be not so fond of pure unleaded, even though the last owner said that from 1977 they were designed with unleaded in mind, she was still inclined to cut out in heavy traffic. Do Halfords sell the lead replacement stuff in Blanch by any chance?? I'm also hoping to get her tuned by a specialist at home, who has all the diagnostic stuff, and would have her purring like a kitten!!
Apart from that she went like a dream, and it was no problem keeping up with the traffic, even a nice overtake an an '05 Corolla whose driver was speechless!!:D Needless to say she got a thorough inspection when I landed, and I'm still very impressed with the purchase. I hope to bring it to a local Vintage day the 26th all going well.
Nice to hear that there's some other KE30's about ds20prefecture!!

I doubt the cutting out has to do with the use of unleaded. Corollas were sold in the US, which went unleaded in 1970/71. As far as I know, the valve seats do not rely on lead for lubrication.

It is unlikely to be the octane either - that would manifest itself as "pinking" under load (e.g. accelerate up a hill in 4th at 50mph). This can be worked around by retarding the ignition a little.

I'd check your timing, mixture, idle, points, condensor, fuel supply & quality, plugs, leads and coil in that order.

    Is it running very hot?

What show will you be bringing her to Jason_G_KE30 ?

I wouldn't mind having a closer look at her (maybe even sit in it ???).

(I'll be the guy with the camera ........and the nostalgic look on his face! :D )

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 67 ✭✭Jason_G_KE30

Thanks for the advice ds20prefecture, I'm hoping to get it checked out shortly. That said I'm hoping to bring her to a Vintage day in a place called Cornafein in Cavan this Saturday coming. It's a very local thing, unless you are willing to travel that far Silvera ;), if you are you're more than welcome!!

There's also a bigger show in the Cavan Equestrian Centre on October 8th if anyone is interested in a good run. It's all inside in the arena and there's stalls and some machinery on show outside, plus an auction also. Will keep ye informed anyway

I never saw a 2 door saloon here before (have seen 2 door estate tho).

I was in crete a few months ago and I saw a lot of these cars with chrome
bumper overriders and chrome rear light clusters. A neighbour of mine owned
a KE30 coupe but it had the aerial on the passenger front wing. Also looking at the picture of the two coupes, notice the different badges on the grille, one appears to be a Toyota and the other has the Corolla emblem that was
still featured on Japanese corollas up to 2000 when it was replaced by a completely different emblem. I also have a sales brochure from I973 for the Mark 2 corolla and a 2000 issue reproduction copy of the Mark I Corolla which I think was never sold here, unless some people working in the UK in the sixties brought one back with them, but they were rarely even in the UK back then as Toyota only arrived in I966
