Accomodation in Croatia

    Hey,

Spending a week or so in Croatia- Zagreb, Split, Hvar, Korcula & Rijeka as part of our interrailing trip in late August. Doesn't seem to be many hostels online for the majority of these places. Just wondering if anyone managed to get a bed around this area for around E20 or if camping is the only realistic budget option?

Any tips in general regarding interesting places round Croatia/Slovenia would also be cool...

Anyone get the ferry from Korcula to Rijeka? How much did it cost?

    Thanks.

Theres a really nice hostel in the Ravnice area of Zagreb out past the Dynamo Zagreb football stadium. You get the tram beside the train station. About 5 stops from there.

I wouldnt recommend the big Hostel in Town beside the train station, a.k.a the concentration camp.

Also theres a bar beside the hostel called Masters bar, very very cool chaps who own it. The owners name is Bara. He knows myself and a couple of friends of mine.

Just say that Derek from Ireland told you to go there!

Sorry I cant give you more info about Split etc but I stayed with friends there and spent more time in Dubrovnik.

Cousin Borat is right, the Ravnice hostel is definitly the best to go for, cant remember how much it was but it was very reasonable for what you got, washing facilities, free internet, lovely rooms. Great place.

Some well tasty drinks on offer in the city as well :)
Croatia is a brilliant place to go travelling, all the hostels are pretty cheap, camping can be pretty awkward though cos a lot of the sites are a way way out of town

Travelled for 10 days in Croatia last year, found it vey easy to find accommodation - we only booked the first night in advance. There are tourist information offices in nearly every town and village, they will ring around and find you a room. In the bigger tourist towns there are gangs of women hanging around on the outskirts waiting to rent you a room. We mostly stayed in rented rooms in people's houses, usually had the place to ourselves. Much better than hostels as you have your own kitchen, bathroom etc. We paid between €15 and €30 per person per night, two sharing. Most try to get you to stay at least 2 nights, but if you're there in the evening they will rent to you for a night no problem.

The country side and islands were the best, found Split too touristy and a bit on the seedy side. Food is excellent and really cheap, especially in the smaller towns. A bit like Italian food - pastas, risottos, excellent steaks and seafood. Main courses less than €10 and around €4for a litre of house wine! Try to stay away from the main tourist spots, the prices are around the same all over but food in the resorts is of lower quality.

The islands are lovely, try to get to Miljet if you can, really relaxing to rent a bike and cycle around the national park, whenever you get too hot simply jump in for a swim. Not sure about public transport as we rented a car. Ferries between the islands are very cheap, but can be crowded in August, ok for foot passengers but if you have a car get your tickets well in advance.

Great country for scenery, watersports, hillwalking etc. Lots of Roman ruins, esp around Split if you are into your history. Lots of beaches but nearly all are pebbles so you will need flip flops / sandals. Anyway I highly recommend it and would love to go back some day.
